The Role
We need someone who treats the project schedule as a living tool, not a document you build once and forget. You’ll be responsible for turning project scope into a realistic, trackable timeline — and then keeping that timeline honest as the project actually unfolds on site.
What This Looks Like Week to Week
Building & Maintaining the Schedule
- Develop baseline schedules in Primavera P6, broken down to a level of detail the site team can actually work from
- Translate scope of work and drawings into a logical sequence of activities with realistic durations
- Update the schedule regularly based on verified site progress — not assumptions
- Build rolling look-ahead schedules (2-week/4-week) that site supervisors actually use for planning
Keeping It Honest
- Compare planned vs. actual progress and flag gaps before they become crises
- Run critical path checks to know exactly which activities are actually driving the completion date
- Model recovery scenarios when the project falls behind — and be ready to explain the trade-offs of each option
- Track how schedule changes ripple through dependent activities
Talking About the Schedule
- Translate schedule data into reports and visuals (S-curves, dashboards) that non-planners can actually understand
- Present schedule status clearly in project meetings — including the uncomfortable parts
- Support delay analysis and EOT documentation when disputes arise over lost time
Working With Others
- Sit with site engineers regularly to sanity-check whether the schedule reflects real site conditions
- Coordinate with procurement so material lead times are reflected accurately in the schedule
- Review subcontractor schedules for consistency with the master program
What You Need to Do This Well
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Construction Engineering
- 4–7 years specifically building and maintaining project schedules (not just updating someone else’s)
- Deep, comfortable fluency in Primavera P6 — this isn’t a "basic understanding" role
- Real experience with critical path method, look-ahead scheduling, and progress measurement
- Ability to explain schedule logic to people who don’t read Gantt charts for a living
