Job Summary
A Lathe Technician is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining conventional and CNC lathe machines to manufacture, repair, and restore precision metal components. The role involves interpreting technical drawings, selecting appropriate tools and materials, machining components to specified tolerances, and ensuring high-quality workmanship while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate conventional and CNC lathe machines to produce precision components.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, speeds, and feeds for machining operations.
- Machine shafts, bushings, sleeves, pins, threads, and other precision components to specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Measure and inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, and bore gauges.
- Perform turning, facing, drilling, boring, threading, knurling, and reaming operations.
- Adjust machine settings to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on lathe machines and machining equipment.
- Identify and resolve machining defects and equipment issues.
- Maintain accurate production, inspection, and maintenance records.
- Follow engineering specifications, company procedures, and workplace health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Keep the workshop, machines, tools, and work area clean, organized, and in good working condition.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Technical diploma or vocational certification in Machining, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Precision Manufacturing, or a related field.
- Previous experience operating conventional and/or CNC lathe machines is preferred.
- CNC programming knowledge is an advantage.

- Strong knowledge of machining principles and lathe operations.
- Proficiency in operating conventional and CNC lathes.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, blueprints, and machining specifications.
- Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments and inspection tools.
- Knowledge of machining materials, cutting tools, and machining parameters.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to precision and quality.
- Good troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
