Job Summary:
The Generator Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel generators and associated mechanical and electrical systems. The role supports both workshop and field service operations, ensuring generators are operating efficiently, safely, and in accordance with manufacturer standards. The technician will work closely with service, rental, and sales teams to deliver reliable power solutions to customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Preventive Maintenance
- Conduct routine preventive maintenance (PM) as per service schedules
- Inspect engines, alternators, control systems, fuel systems, and cooling systems
- Replace consumables such as oil, filters, belts, and coolant
- Maintain accurate service records and reports
Troubleshooting & Repair
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in generators and control systems
- Repair or replace defective components including engines, alternators, sensors, wiring, and controllers
- Perform breakdown maintenance and emergency repairs at customer sites
- Use diagnostic tools and manuals to identify root causes
Electrical Systems
- Troubleshoot and maintain generator control panels, ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch), and synchronization systems
- Perform wiring, testing, and fault-finding on electrical circuits
- Ensure correct voltage, frequency, and load balancing
Mechanical Systems
- Maintain and repair diesel engines, fuel systems, exhaust systems, and cooling systems
- Perform overhauling of engines and major components when required
- Ensure proper alignment, mounting, and vibration control
Rental & Field Support
- Support generator mobilization, installation, and demobilization for rental projects
- Conduct site inspections and ensure proper operation during rental periods
- Respond to service calls and emergencies within required timelines
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow company HSE policies and safety procedures at all times
- Ensure safe handling of tools, equipment, and hazardous materials
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas (workshop and site)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma or Technical Certification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electromechanical Engineering
- 2–5 years of experience in generator maintenance and repair (e.g., Perkins, Cummins, FG Wilson, CAT, etc.)
- Experience in both workshop and field service environments
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools and equipment
- Must have Qatar Valid Driving license
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Exposure to outdoor environments, noise, and mechanical hazards
- May require overtime, standby duty, and emergency call-outs
- Travel to customer sites as required
