About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Falcon Imprint Specialist to join our Falcon Breeding & Conservation team. This role is responsible for the artificial rearing, behavioral imprinting, welfare, and early development of captive-bred falcon chicks destined for breeding, conservation, and falconry programs. You will ensure chicks receive optimal nutrition, health monitoring, behavioral conditioning, and environmental enrichment, while minimizing stress and maximizing future breeding or hunting performance.
This position works closely with veterinarians, breeding technicians, nutrition staff, biosecurity personnel, and production managers to maintain high chick survival, excellent welfare standards, and complete production records.
Key Responsibilities
Artificial Rearing & Imprinting
• Perform artificial hand-rearing of falcon chicks from hatch until transfer
• Implement approved imprinting protocols according to breeding objectives
• Maintain proper human imprinting while preventing undesirable behavioral abnormalities
• Monitor chick development at each growth stage and identify behavioral deviations
• Prepare chicks for future breeding, falconry, or conservation release programs
Daily Husbandry & Growth Monitoring
• Feed chicks according to age-specific protocols under strict hygiene standards
• Monitor food intake, hydration, and feeding response; clean brooders and imprint rooms
• Record daily body weight, crop filling, feather and bone development, and behavioral milestones
• Compare growth against established production standards
Behavioral Development & Health Monitoring
• Conduct controlled human exposure, perch training, target training, and confidence building
• Monitor fear responses, aggression, vocalization, and activity levels
• Observe chicks multiple times daily for signs of illness or distress and report abnormalities immediately to the veterinary department
• Assist veterinary staff with medication administration, vitamin/probiotic supplementation, and sample collection
Environment, Biosecurity & Records
• Maintain temperature, humidity, lighting, and a stress-free, hygienic environment
• Strictly follow biosecurity protocols (PPE, footbaths, disinfection, isolation procedures)
• Maintain accurate records (hatch data, pedigree, ring/microchip numbers, feed, medication, mortality) using the electronic breeding management system
• Maintain brooders, feeding equipment, perches, and imprint rooms; report maintenance needs promptly
Required Qualifications
Education
• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology, Animal Science, Wildlife Management, Zoology, Avian Science, Falconry, Wildlife Conservation, or a related discipline
Experience
• 2–5 years of essential experience working with birds of prey
• Experience in falcon breeding centers, falcon hospitals, wildlife breeding facilities, raptor rehabilitation centers, or conservation breeding programs is preferred
Performance Expectations
Success in this role is measured against key performance indicators including chick survival rate (≥98%), 100% daily feeding and health-check compliance, full biosecurity and medication accuracy, timely production record-keeping, and chick growth within target standards (≥95%).
