As a Substation Automation & SCADA Engineer, your role will be focused on the effective technical delivery of Substation Automation Systems (SAS), SCADA, and Power Management System (PMS) projects. You shall demonstrate a proactive, customer-focused approach, taking ownership of engineering, design, integration, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities for digital substations, industrial automation systems, and critical power infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities:
· Implement Substation Automation and SCADA technical solutions for utility, oil & gas, and data center projects using approved hardware and software platforms.
· Prepare technical submittals including system architectures, communication network diagrams, control philosophies, I/O lists, FAT/SAT procedures, engineering drawings, bill of materials, method statements, O&M manuals, and training documentation.
· Design, configure, test, and commission SCADA platforms including the organisation’s EcoStruxure Power Operation (EPO) and Power SCADA Operation (PSO).
· Develop, configure, and troubleshoot PLC applications using Schneider’s Quantum, M340, M580, and Siemens S7 PLCs.
· Implement and validate Power Management System (PMS) functions including Load Shedding, Load Sharing, Generator Synchronization, and Power Monitoring.
· Configure and commission IEC 61850-based Substation Automation Systems and integrate Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), Protection Relays, RTUs, and Energy Meters.
· Configure and troubleshoot communication protocols including IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104, Modbus, and OPC.
· Design, configure, and validate industrial network architectures utilizing PRP, HSR, RSTP, VLANs, and Industrial Ethernet technologies.
· Configure and troubleshoot industrial networking equipment such as Hirschmann and Siemens managed switches.
· Execute Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), site commissioning, and system performance validation activities.
· Perform system troubleshooting and root cause analysis for SCADA, PLC, communication, networking, and field device-related issues.
· Integrate third-party systems including protection relays, energy management systems, metering systems, and distributed control systems.
· Participate in customer meetings, technical reviews, commissioning workshops, and project progress reviews.
· Support implementation of OT Cybersecurity requirements in accordance with IEC/ISA 62443 and Industrial Automation and Control System (IACS) concepts.
· Configure and support cybersecurity components including Firewalls, IDS, Syslog Servers, and Windows Domain Administration.
· Produce site reports, commissioning reports, technical documentation, and project close-out deliverables.
· Ensure all engineering risks, technical issues, and project concerns are identified, documented, and escalated appropriately.
· Work closely with customers, consultants, EPC contractors, project managers, and third-party vendors to ensure successful project delivery.
· Ensure compliance with project safety requirements, method statements, risk assessments, and health & safety regulations.
Essential Requirements:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Automation Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering, or equivalent engineering discipline.
· Minimum of 2–8 years of relevant work experience in Substation Automation Systems (SAS), SCADA, Power Management Systems (PMS), Industrial Automation, or Protection & Control Systems.
· Strong hands-on experience with Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Power Operation (EPO) or Power SCADA Operation (PSO).
· Experience with Schneider Quantum, M340, M580, and/or Siemens S7 PLCs.
· Proven experience with IEC 61850 Digital Substations, Protection Relays, IED integration, and RTU systems.
· Strong understanding of Load Shedding, Load Sharing, and Power Management Systems (PMS).
· Experience with industrial communication protocols including IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104, Modbus, and OPC.
· Hands-on experience with industrial networking technologies including PRP, HSR, RSTP, VLAN, and Industrial Ethernet architectures.
· Experience configuring and troubleshooting Hirschmann or Siemens industrial switches.
· Strong experience in system design, engineering, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and troubleshooting of SCADA and Substation Automation Systems.
· Knowledge of OT Cybersecurity concepts, IEC/ISA 62443 standards, and Industrial Automation and Control Systems (IACS).
· Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
· Flexible to travel frequently and work on long-term site assignments.
Pay: QAR10,000.00 – QAR15,000.00 per month
