The Rig Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining drilling rigs used in road construction projects. The role involves carrying out drilling activities for soil investigation, foundation works, rock drilling, piling support, and other construction requirements while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate drilling rigs and associated equipment safely and efficiently.
- Perform drilling activities according to project specifications and engineering drawings.
- Conduct daily inspections and routine maintenance of drilling equipment.
- Monitor drilling performance and adjust operating parameters as required.
- Identify underground conditions and report any unexpected findings to the supervisor.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and maintenance of drilling tools and accessories.
- Follow all company health, safety, and environmental (HSE) procedures.
- Maintain accurate daily drilling logs and equipment records.
- Coordinate with surveyors, engineers, and other site personnel to complete work efficiently.
- Troubleshoot minor mechanical issues and report major equipment defects promptly.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Assist in mobilization and demobilization of drilling equipment between project sites.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification or license to operate drilling rigs (where required by local regulations).
- 3–5 years of experience operating drilling rigs in road or civil construction projects.
- Knowledge of drilling techniques, soil conditions, and construction site operations.
- Basic mechanical maintenance skills.
- Ability to read construction drawings and follow technical instructions.
