Job Summary
The Hydraulic OB Truck Engineer/Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of hydraulic systems installed on On-Board (OB) trucks, including truck-mounted cranes, boom lifts, hook loaders, skip loaders, tail lifts, water tankers, vacuum trucks, and other specialized hydraulic equipment. The role ensures all hydraulic equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with manufacturer specifications and company HSE standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on hydraulic systems of OB trucks and specialized vehicles.
- Inspect hydraulic pumps, cylinders, motors, valves, hoses, filters, and reservoirs.
- Replace hydraulic oil, filters, seals, and worn components according to maintenance schedules.
- Maintain maintenance records and service reports.
- Diagnose hydraulic faults using pressure gauges, flow meters, and diagnostic equipment.
- Repair or replace defective hydraulic pumps, cylinders, control valves, hoses, fittings, and actuators.
- Identify and rectify hydraulic leaks and pressure issues.
- Restore equipment to operational condition with minimal downtime.
- Analyze hydraulic system failures and determine root causes.
- Troubleshoot electrical controls associated with hydraulic systems.
- Test hydraulic pressure, flow rates, and system performance.
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Conduct daily and periodic inspections of hydraulic equipment.
- Verify the safe operation of truck-mounted cranes, lifting systems, stabilizers, PTOs, and hydraulic attachments.
- Report equipment defects and recommend repairs.
- Ensure compliance with manufacturer maintenance standards.
- Follow company HSE policies and procedures.
- Apply Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures before maintenance activities.
- Ensure hydraulic equipment is safe before returning it to service.
- Maintain a clean and organized workshop.
- Prepare maintenance reports and inspection checklists.
- Record spare parts consumption and maintenance history.
- Update equipment maintenance logs and asset records.
- Report recurring failures and recommend improvements.
- Identify spare parts requirements.
- Assist in maintaining hydraulic spare parts inventory.
- Recommend procurement of hydraulic components when required.
- Suggest improvements to maintenance procedures.
- Assist in reducing equipment downtime.
- Support reliability and preventive maintenance initiatives.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Technical certification in hydraulic systems is preferred.
Experience
- 5–8 years of experience in hydraulic maintenance of heavy vehicles or construction equipment.
- Experience with truck-mounted hydraulic systems and specialized municipal or construction vehicles.
- GCC/Qatar experience is preferred.
Technician
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in hydraulic maintenance and repair.
- Experience servicing truck-mounted hydraulic equipment is preferred.
- GCC/Qatar experience is an advantage.
