The Head, Archives & Preservation Technology is responsible to manage the long-term preservation and security of, and access to, QF’s digital archives.

Key Result Areas:

Develop and maintain industry best practices for storage, backup, and recovery systems & procedures

Ensure that QF’s digital archival repository conforms to the OAIS (Open Archival Information System) model of SIP (Submission Information Package), AIP (Archival Information Package) and DIP (Descriptive Information Package) methodology outlined in ISO 14721:2003 for digital preservation and repository management

Manage the operation of QF’s digital preservation and repository management system

Manage the implementation of digital preservation strategies including the migration, emulation, and risk management of digital media

Develop and maintain industry metadata standards and ensure the integrity of data within the digital repository

Manage the digital repository infrastructure, including hardware, software and networking aspects

Oversee technical troubleshooting, upgrades and system integrations

Ensure system security and data privacy standards are met to prevent unauthorized access or data loss

Oversee the ingestion of digital assets ensuring proper workflows and adherence to archival and metadata standards, including the OAIS model ISO 14721 and Trusted Digital Repository ISO 16363

Collaborate with stakeholders and the Collections Management team to acquire and enhance collections

Develop and implement policies for digital content selection, accession, and appraisal

Ensure the long term accessibility of digital content through proper indexing, metadata management, platform compatibility and preparation of user-friendly finding aids

Lead projects related to the digital repository

Monitor, analyze and report on repository usage and performance

Ensure Archive staff are trained on approved preservation tools and procedures

Perform other reasonable tasks as assigned by supervisor

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Information Technology, Archiving, Library Science, or other relevant discipline;
Master’s in archival preservation technology preferred. Demonstrable evidence ofcontinuous learningin the field of Information Management. Recognized professional qualifications such as Certified Archivist (CA), Digital Archives Specialist (DAS), Certified Records Manager (CRM), Information Governance Professional (IGP) and/or an Archival Management Certificate are an advantage

6-8 years of relevant full-time work experience, 2 of which at a supervisory level

Expert understanding of core archival principles – provenance and original order; metadata and descriptive standards, accessioning, acquisition, appraisal, andproblem solving

Expert knowledge of arrangement and description, preservation techniques, research and reference services of digital archival material and systems

Expert knowledge of the theory and practice of managing the information lifecycle – from record creation, system access and management, and the appraisal of records for retention as archives or disposal over time

Experience managing a digital archives repository using people, process, and technology techniques to achieve organizational goals

Experience managing the acquisition, arrangement, and description of digital archival records in a digital archive repository
