The Role
We are seeking an experienced Allocation Manager to lead allocation strategy, inventory distribution, capacity planning, replenishment optimization, and resource deployment. The ideal candidate will analyze demand, inventory levels, sales performance, operational constraints, and market requirements to determine the optimal allocation of products and resources while balancing availability, profitability, efficiency, and customer demand.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement allocation strategies, inventory deployment plans, allocation models, and resource distribution frameworks aligned with commercial and operational objectives.
- Manage allocation of products, inventory, stock, equipment, capacity, and other business resources across stores, warehouses, distribution centers, regions, channels, customers, or operational units.
- Analyze historical sales, demand forecasts, inventory positions, seasonality, product lifecycle, customer behavior, market trends, and operational constraints to determine allocation requirements.
- Collaborate with Merchandising, Demand Planning, Supply Chain, Procurement, Logistics, Sales, Finance, Operations, Marketing, and Executive Leadership.
- Develop initial allocation, replenishment, reallocation, stock balancing, and inventory redistribution strategies to maximize availability and minimize excess inventory.
- Establish allocation rules, priorities, thresholds, business logic, service-level requirements, and exception-management processes.
- Monitor inventory availability, sell-through, stock cover, weeks of supply, stockouts, overstocks, inventory aging, allocation accuracy, and replenishment performance.
- Develop allocation scenarios for new product launches, seasonal campaigns, promotions, market expansion, store openings, supply disruptions, capacity constraints, and demand fluctuations.
- Optimize inventory placement across channels and locations based on profitability, demand potential, customer requirements, logistics costs, and service-level objectives.
- Conduct allocation performance reviews, inventory health assessments, root-cause analyses, exception reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) including allocation accuracy, in-stock rate, sell-through, stockout rate, excess inventory, inventory turnover, weeks of supply, fulfillment rate, service level, markdown exposure, and gross margin contribution.
- Build and maintain allocation dashboards, reporting tools, forecasting models, inventory analytics, exception reports, and decision-support frameworks.
- Partner with Finance to assess inventory value, working capital requirements, margin impact, markdown risk, and return on inventory investment.
- Coordinate with Logistics and Distribution teams to ensure allocation decisions align with warehouse capacity, transportation availability, delivery schedules, and distribution constraints.
- Manage allocation budgets, planning resources, analytical tools, external consultants, technology platforms, and strategic optimization projects.
- Drive digital transformation through artificial intelligence (AI)-powered allocation, machine learning demand prediction, automated replenishment, inventory optimization, predictive analytics, and real-time allocation decision systems.
- Utilize SAP S/4HANA, SAP IBP, Oracle Retail, Blue Yonder, Manhattan Associates, Kinaxis, o9 Solutions, Anaplan, Power BI, Tableau, Excel, SQL, Python, ERP, warehouse management systems (WMS), and supply chain planning technologies.
- Prepare executive allocation reports, inventory strategy presentations, performance dashboards, scenario analyses, optimization recommendations, and strategic plans for senior leadership.
- Lead, mentor, and develop allocation analysts, inventory planners, merchandise planners, supply chain analysts, and multidisciplinary planning teams while fostering a culture of analytical rigor, collaboration, accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, Operations Management, Merchandising, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Analytics, Operations Research, Business Administration (MBA), or a related discipline is highly advantageous.
- Professional certifications such as APICS CSCP, CPIM, CLTD, Lean Six Sigma, or equivalent are preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in allocation, inventory planning, merchandise planning, demand planning, supply chain planning, replenishment, or related roles.
- At least 2 years of experience managing allocation teams, inventory optimization programmes, merchandise planning initiatives, or multidisciplinary supply chain projects preferred.
- Strong understanding of inventory allocation, demand planning, replenishment, forecasting, stock optimization, supply chain operations, inventory economics, and commercial performance.
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA, SAP IBP, Oracle Retail, Blue Yonder, Manhattan Associates, Kinaxis, o9 Solutions, Anaplan, Power BI, Tableau, Excel, SQL, Python, ERP, WMS, and supply chain planning platforms.
- Familiarity with AI-powered allocation, machine learning forecasting, automated replenishment, predictive inventory analytics, optimization algorithms, real-time inventory visibility, and advanced planning technologies is highly advantageous.
- Strong analytical, leadership, communication, stakeholder management, forecasting, financial, project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple allocation initiatives while balancing customer demand, inventory availability, profitability, working capital, logistics constraints, supply continuity, operational capacity, budgets, and commercial priorities.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote environment with distributed planning, merchandising, supply chain, logistics, finance, sales, operations, and analytics teams, with occasional travel for planning meetings, warehouse visits, supplier reviews, inventory assessments, business reviews, and strategic planning sessions as required.
