General Description

Responsible to the Regional Workshop Manager for effectively leading and managing all activities in the workshop. The role is also responsible for managing the team of Workshop Supervisors and all Technical staff, ensuring that professional standards of work and legal compliance are continuously achieved. The Area Workshop Manager is responsible to manage the Workshop’s Key Performance indicators along with maintaining highest quality standards in line with Actions policies.

The Area Workshop Manager will have strong problem solving skills and the ability to work under pressure. The Workshop Manager will report to Senior Management with regular performance updates along with any operational challenges that may arise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all team members are adhering to Safe Working Practices in accordance to Health and Safety Legislation (LOTO, Tool Calibration and Lifting Register) and Action’s HSE policies.
  • Provide leadership and support to direct reports to ensure the enhancement of knowledge through continuous development through in house training.
  • Identifying staff training needs and making appropriate recommendations for skill development for workshop and operations staff.
  • Depitise in the absence of the Regional Workshop Manager to ensure that all standards and practices are upheld.
  • Monitoring the output and productivity of the workshop staff, ensuring efficient material usage and adherence to Actions procedures.
  • Conduct regular inspection and maintenance of Workshops and all equipment.
  • Work closely with procurement, finance and cross functional teams to ensure optimization of process and drive efficiencies at all times.
  • Monitor the allocation and use of workshop resources efficiently.
  • Facilitate training and development programmes for the Workshop and Business unit technical staff.
  • Prepares and presents reports on workshop operations for management.
  • Responsible for budgeting and cost control, monitoring the consumption of parts, labour and all other costs related to workshop activities to ensure optimization of financial performance.
  • Inventory Management, avoiding overstocking or shortages by analysing purchasing trends and asset utilization, working with the procurement team to better forecast and to enable better rates with vendor negotiation.
  • Establish KPIs related to cost, efficiency, and revenue to regularly assess the workshop’s performance and define corrective measures.

Qualification Requirements

Education

  • Associate’s degree, trade certification, or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or Fluid Power Technology.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in either a Workshop or Heavy Maintenance role
  • Proven experience of leadership in a large-scale organization of (100+ personnel)
  • Proven experience with budgeting, financial analysis and PNL management
  • Familiarity with ISO Standards (9001, 14001, 45001)

Essential Skills

  • Advanced understanding of Workshop equipment, tooling and safety standards
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and prior experience with ERP systems (MCS, Oracle).
  • Excellent organisational skills and skilled at multi-tasking with flexibility and changing schedules and shifting priorities.
  • Strong Leadership and interpersonal skills in a diverse and technical environment required.
