Testing Engineer – Cables Manufacturing
Job Summary
The Testing Engineer is responsible for planning, conducting, and monitoring electrical, mechanical, and physical tests on power, control, instrumentation, and specialty cables to ensure compliance with customer specifications and international standards. The role supports quality assurance, product development, and production by maintaining accurate testing records and ensuring all products meet quality and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine, type, sample, and acceptance tests on cables and raw materials.
- Conduct electrical tests including:
- High Voltage (HV) Test
- Insulation Resistance Test (IR)
- Conductor Resistance Test
- Spark Test
- Partial Discharge (PD) Test
- AC/DC Withstand Voltage Test
- Capacitance and Dielectric Loss (Tan Delta) Test
- Conduct mechanical and physical tests including:
- Tensile Strength and Elongation
- Hot Set Test
- Shrinkage Test
- Abrasion Resistance
- Impact and Crush Tests
- Flexibility and Bend Tests
- Perform flame-retardant and fire-resistance tests as required.
- Verify product compliance with customer specifications and applicable standards.
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory testing equipment.
- Analyze test results and prepare detailed inspection and test reports.
- Investigate test failures, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality Assurance, and R&D teams to resolve quality issues.
- Ensure laboratory activities comply with safety procedures and quality management systems.
- Maintain accurate records of test data, calibration certificates, and quality documentation.
- Participate in internal and external quality audits.
- Support product qualification, certification, and customer witness testing.
- Assist in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance testing efficiency and product quality.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
- 3–8 years of experience in a cable manufacturing or electrical testing environment.
- Experience testing LV, MV, or HV power cables is preferred.
