Job Title: Wood Painter
A Wood Painter applies paints, stains, varnishes, and other finishes to wood surfaces to protect and beautify them. The role requires technical skills in preparing surfaces, applying coatings, and ensuring high-quality, durable finishes. The Wood Painter must have knowledge of wood types, finishes, and painting techniques, as well as an eye for detail.
Key Responsibilities:
Surface Preparation:
Sanding and Cleaning: Sanding wood surfaces to remove rough spots and ensure a smooth finish. Cleaning the wood to remove dust, dirt, grease, or previous finishes.
Stripping Old Paint/Finish: Using chemical strippers or sanding to remove old paint, varnish, or stain from wood surfaces.
Repairing Imperfections: Filling cracks, holes, or other surface imperfections with wood fillers or putty, then sanding smooth.
Paint Mixing and Application:
Mixing Paints and Stains: Mixing paints, stains, and finishes to the right consistency and color, sometimes custom blending colors based on client preferences.
Painting and Staining: Using brushes, rollers, or spray guns to apply paint, stains, or varnishes evenly to wood surfaces. Applying multiple coats if necessary.
Applying Finishes: Using techniques such as glazing, waxing, or applying clear coats to protect the wood and enhance the finish.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in painting furniture or wood surfaces (usually 1-3 years).
Knowledge of furniture restoration techniques is a plus.
