Job Description
The Specialist Physician shares the same responsibility of the Consultant Physician for delivering high quality, evidence-based, and patient-centred care. The post holder is expected to be an example of clinical excellence within the Division and to contribute to the supervision and training of junior medical staff.
Responsibilities
- Managerial/Administration: supports and adheres to all hospital departmental and divisional initiatives, policies and procedures.
- Supports and participates in the organization’s performance management system, including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes.
- Assists with Consultant staff in ensuring adequate medical coverage within the Division at all times.
- Attends Divisional meetings as invited.
- Supports the reporting, investigation, and response to untoward incidents.
- Assumes other administrative or clinical duties as requested by the Consultant Staff.
- Under the supervision of the Consultant Physician, diagnoses and treats patients according to established standards of best practice for the post holder’s specialty.
- Assists the Consultant Physician in supervising the activities of junior medical staff, and jointly assumes responsibility for the care they provide.
- Complies with all hospital policies regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow-up practices.
- Practices appropriate utilisation of the organization’s resources.
- Leads ward rounds; reassesses both inpatients and outpatients on a regular basis, in line with established best practice.
- Accurately documents all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established procedures.
- Regularly reviews results of all investigations and modifies treatment as required.
- liaises with other medical specialties and support services for additional input as required.
- Actively participates in multi-disciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe and holistic care for individual patients.
- Ensures preparation of patients for all procedures including obtaining informed consent.
- Accepts clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, other departments, specialty clinics, walk‑in patients, and patients referred from other hospitals.
- Participates in and supports the Consultant Physician in ensuring provision of out of hours on call coverage on a rotational basis including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays as required.
- Communicates clinical information to patients and the patient’s family and friends (with patient consent) in a timely manner.
- Maintains a good working relationship with members of staff and promotes collaboration and a team‑based approach to patient care.
- Performs other clinical responsibilities as assigned.
- Supports quality improvement initiatives within the Division.
- Supports a culture of regular audit and encourages the use of audit results for improving clinical practice.
- Supports the reporting, investigation, and response to untoward incidents.
- Promotes and participates in clinical research and publication.
- Assists in the instruction, guidance and supervision of junior medical staff (required).
- Keeps abreast of current relevant literature and the latest trends and technologies in the industry.
- Participates in clinical research and publications.

Qualifications & Requirements
Special Certificate – Required
- Tier 1:
No additional experience required post board certification. - Tier 2: NLT 2 years of clinical experience post qualification in an internationally accredited institute.
- UAE nationals:
No additional experience required post board certification. - UAE Nationals + Non UAE Nationals enrolled in HAAD accredited residency programs:
No experience required post board certification. - Tier 3: NLT 3 years clinical experience as Specialist post qualification in an internationally accredited institute.
