Software Development Manager, Translation Services
In Translation Services, we enable anyone in the world to interact with Amazon products in their language of choice by providing translation APIs and delivery mechanisms that allow content systems and tech teams to localize content quickly, with high quality and at a low cost.
Key job responsibilities
As an experienced Software Development Manager, you will drive the global expansion of applications and services by building highly scalable distributed systems responsible for delivering billions of translations per day with low latency and high availability. You will promote engineering best practices, ensure system resilience during peak events, and balance trade-offs between competing interests. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing complex dependencies and requirements to produce optimal solutions.
You will partner with your engineers and leadership to define a vision that supports Amazon’s growth in translated content delivery while minimizing costs.
A day in the life
Our primary focus is on ensuring our Translation Ingestion systems provide excellent experiences for our customers—anyone interacting with Amazon products and services. Our internal customers are tech teams relying on reliable, easy-to-use translation APIs. You will oversee content management across Amazon and its subsidiaries.
About the team
You will lead Amazon translation ingestion services, working with a team of top-tier engineers with deep domain knowledge in scalable service support  will collaborate daily with other tech teams within Translation Services for planning and development.
Minimum qualifications
3+ years of engineering team management experience
7+ years of engineering experience
8+ years of experience leading the design and development of multi-tier web services
Knowledge of engineering practices across the full software/hardware/network development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, certification, and live site operations
Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Experience supporting highly available, scalable systems
Additional preferred qualifications
Experience communicating with users, technical teams, and senior leadership to gather requirements, describe features, and define product strategy
Experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and managing software engineers to enhance team skills and effectiveness
