JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Master Sofa Upholsterer
Department: Upholstery / Production
Reports To: Upholstery Foreman / Production Manager
Location: Workshop– WINDOW WAY LLC- AL QUSAIS
Job Summary
The Master Sofa Upholsterer is responsible for the complete upholstery of sofas, armchairs, sectional sofas, cushions, and other upholstered furniture. The position requires advanced knowledge of upholstery techniques, foam shaping, fabric cutting, sewing coordination, fitting, and finishing.
The Master Upholsterer must be able to work independently from drawings, measurements, samples, and approved designs while maintaining high standards of workmanship and finishing quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out complete upholstery work for sofas, sectional sofas, armchairs, ottomans, benches, headboards, cushions, and other upholstered furniture.
- Read and understand drawings, measurements, designs, and upholstery specifications.
- Inspect the sofa frame and identify any issues before starting upholstery.
- Prepare and install foam, fiber, batting, webbing, springs, and other upholstery materials.
- Cut, shape, and fit foam according to the required design and dimensions.
- Apply foam and padding properly to achieve the required shape, comfort, firmness, and appearance.
- Install and adjust fabric, leather, vinyl, or other upholstery materials.
- Ensure correct alignment of patterns, seams, piping, buttons, pleats, channels, and decorative details.
- Coordinate with the sewing team regarding fabric panels, piping, stitching, zippers, covers, and other requirements.
- Stretch and secure upholstery materials properly to achieve a smooth and professional finish.
- Work with different sofa designs, including modern, classic, curved, modular, loose-cover, fixed-cover, and customized sofas.
- Carry out re-upholstery and repair work when required.
- Make necessary adjustments to foam, padding, fabric, and finishing during production.
- Check completed upholstery work for quality, dimensions, comfort, symmetry, and overall appearance.
- Correct defects such as wrinkles, loose fabric, uneven foam, poor alignment, incorrect stitching, or uneven piping.
- Ensure all completed items meet the approved sample, drawing, and company quality standards.
- Minimize fabric, foam, and material wastage.
- Maintain a clean and organized working area.
- Properly use and maintain upholstery tools and equipment.
- Follow workshop safety procedures and company policies.
- Assist and guide junior upholsterers when required.
- Report any material, design, frame, or production issues to the Foreman or Production Manager before proceeding.
- Meet assigned production schedules and completion deadlines.
