The Deck Hand (Junior/Senior) is responsible for assisting in offshore and onshore aquaculture operations, including handling oyster nets, maintaining farm equipment, and ensuring the overall care of oysters.
Aquaculture Operations:
Assist in the transport and movement of oyster nets between the land facility and offshore concessions.
Participate in cleaning, repairing, and maintaining lantern nets and other farm equipment.
Ensure proper cleaning, handling, and care of oysters to maintain quality and growth.
Work as part of a multi-functional team across onshore and offshore locations.
Marine & Vessel Support:
Support in loading and unloading oyster nets and aquaculture equipment from vessels and barges.
Assist with mooring operations, docking, and undocking as required.
Ensure adherence to safety protocols while working on decks, barges, and marine environments.
Equipment & Maintenance:
Conduct routine checks on farm tools, gear, and safety equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
Assist in minor repairs and general maintenance of aquaculture infrastructure.
Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
General Duties:
Work collaboratively with team members, supervisors, and marine staff to ensure smooth operations.
Follow all company policies, health & safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Farm Manager.
Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience in aquaculture, deck operations, or marine environments
Essential skills:
Physical fitness and ability to work in challenging conditions (marine environment, offshore operations).
Basic knowledge of equipment handling, safety procedures, and vessel operations.
Ability to work in a team and follow instructions from supervisors.
Knowledge of boat handling, net repairs, and oyster farming techniques.
Familiarity with safety and environmental regulations related to offshore work.
