The Red Sea Utilities Multi-Utilities Project is a landmark greenfield initiative developed by ACWA Power in partnership with Red Sea Global, supporting Saudi Arabia’s premier tourism destination along the Red Sea coast. Under a 25-year Utilities Concession Agreement, ACWA Power is responsible for the development, construction, operation, and eventual transfer of a fully integrated, off-grid utilities infrastructure.

The project includes a 340 MWac solar PV plant combined with one of the world’s largest captive-scale battery energy storage systems (1,000-1,200 MWh), enabling 24/7 clean energy supply. In addition to renewable power, the scope covers seawater desalination (up to 32,500 m /day), wetlands-based sewage treatment (16,000 m /day), district cooling (32,500 RT), and zero-landfill waste management ( 11,775 t/year).

Job Purpose

Job purpose: Responsible for overall plant operation activities in shift. Ensure that all the activities in the plant are performed in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with the approved Standard Operating Procedures, quality standards, time schedules, and other operating requirements. Responsible for safe startup/shut down of the plant as per the Standard Operating Procedures.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Comply with safety rules and regulations. Be fully aware of the safety hazards in the plant.
  • Familiar with plant O&M agreements, P&IDs, SOPs, Work instructions, Operation and control logics, emergency operation procedures, as well as regulatory requirements and any other related documents.
  • Ensure that the plant is operated to the established standards with minimum risk to men, machine and materials, comply with safety and environmental standards.
  • Coordinate with all other departments all activities that are related to plant operations during the shift and comply with safety rules and regulations. Have a complete understanding of the permit to work system applied to the plant. Issue and cancel permits to work per authorization. Coordinate activities involving plant chemistry with the Chemist.
  • Follow preset operational schedules to fulfill the targeted production availability safely and efficiently. Coordinate all activities or changes in plant status with operations manager.
  • Make quick, on the spot decisions to correct abnormalities or disturbances. Take corrective actions during a state of emergency. Supervise the start up checklist, interlock checks, protection tests, non routine activities like preservation, acid cleaning etc.
  • Upon authorization, issue work permits for maintenance section involved. Have a complete understanding of the permit to work system procedure applied to the plant. Issue and cancel permits to work per authorization. Normalize the equipment after release and perform necessary testing to check the equipment or system after maintenance.
  • Monitor the overall status of the plant and summarize activities in the log book. Fill daily plant status reports and relay all activities that occurred during his shift.
  • Maintain staff evaluation records, vacation schedules etc. prepare evaluation forms for personnel requirement.
  • Prepare incident / accident reports and other reports required by the departments and submit to the concerned authorities within stipualated time period.
  • Keep accurate records on all activities performed in the plant on regular basis.
  • Assist in the training and familiarization of new personnel in the shift.
  • Study and suggest for any modifications which can improve the plant efficiency.
  • Ensure Environmental Aspect-Impact and Hazard Risk Assessment are carried out, controlled and updated.
