Sewage Treatment Plant Engineer (STP Engineer)
Purpose:
– The STP Project Coordinator (O&M) is responsible for coordinating the operation and maintenance of the sewage treatment plant, ensuring continuous functionality and compliance with environmental and safety regulations. This role involves creating and overseeing preventive maintenance schedules, supervising technical team, specialist subcontractors and ensuring that all mechanical, electrical, and process systems are maintained in optimal condition.
Tasks:
Develop and manage a 52-week preventive maintenance plan, ensuring adherence to operational requirements, manufacturer’s manuals, NFPA regulations, SFG 20 standards, and local standard guidelines (e.g., ASHGHAL, Kahramaa, QCDD, QCS).
Assess and refine existing maintenance checklists to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and operational efficiency.
Ensure that Plant preventive maintenance activities are carried out as per the schedule.
Troubleshoot premature/unusual failures of the system.
Conduct root cause analysis of the problems.
Provide work directions to support partner and contractor staff and ensure that all activities conform to client policies and procedures and accepted technical standards.
Ensure plant availability and reliability are maintained as per the requirements.
Process, receive, and review the CAFM work orders.
Coordinate the operation of critical STP systems including balancing tanks, pumps, air blowers, inlet headworks, screening containers, grease and grit containers, and distribution chambers.
Manage the circulation of Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) water and monitor key operational parameters such as pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and suspended solids.
Coordinate & liaise with client discipline engineers and coordinate day-to-day O&M activities.
Maintain records and files of work performed, in progress, and work completed. Complete and process paperwork related to his section such as time sheets, material costs, repairs, daily reports, equipment failure reports, incident/accident reports, monthly reports, etc.
Inspect the work of subordinate staff, carry out related on-site work, resolve problems during work, and train subordinates in safe practices and guidelines.
Assist in the preparation of annual lists of spare parts, consumable materials, and special tools or test equipment. Review consumption, discuss interchangeability with his supervisor, initiate purchase requisitions for new materials, and assist in the receipt of new material and spare parts through on-site inspection of delivered material.
Oversee the chemical system ensuring accurate operation of chemical dosing systems for NaOH (caustic), FeCl3 (coagulant), and sodium hypochlorite.
Conduct regular inspections of mechanical and electrical systems, including pumps, mixers, blowers, filters, and tanks, ensuring they are free from wear, damage, leaks, and blockages and clean periodically.
Ensure submersible pumps, anaerobic/anoxic mixers, polymer systems, and filtration units are operating efficiently and within safety guidelines.
Ensure PLC panel and motor control centers for proper functionality and maintenance needs.
Oversee filtration systems and perform routine backwashing to maintain system integrity and remove debris and sediments.
Regularly inspect and maintain scouring air blowers, backwash pumps, and polymer preparation units.
