Your impact
Jacobs is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead and oversee all mechanical engineering and construction activities associated with large-scale Data Centre projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the design review, installation, testing, commissioning, and delivery of critical mechanical systems that support the reliable and continuous operation of mission-critical facilities. Working closely with project managers, construction teams, consultants, subcontractors, commissioning engineers, and client representatives, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will ensure that all mechanical works are executed in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and programme objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical Systems Management
Responsible for overseeing the installation, coordination, and delivery of all mechanical systems within the Data Centre environment, including chilled water systems, air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, cooling towers, CRAH units, CRAC units, pumps, piping systems, HVAC equipment, ventilation systems, fuel systems, plumbing systems, drainage systems, and fire protection infrastructure. The role will ensure that all systems are installed in accordance with approved drawings, technical specifications, manufacturers’ recommendations, and industry best practices while supporting the operational requirements of a mission-critical facility.
Data Centre Mechanical Construction Oversight
Manage day-to-day mechanical construction activities and provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle. The role requires close monitoring of subcontractor performance, construction progress, productivity, quality compliance, and resource allocation to ensure mechanical works are completed safely and efficiently. The successful candidate will coordinate closely with CSA, electrical, and commissioning teams to manage interfaces between disciplines and ensure seamless integration of building systems and critical infrastructure.
Design Review and Technical Coordination
Review and evaluate engineering designs, technical specifications, shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, and construction procedures to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards. The role will identify potential design conflicts, resolve technical issues, support constructability reviews, and contribute to value engineering initiatives that enhance project efficiency, quality, and performance. The position will work closely with design consultants and equipment vendors to ensure timely technical support and successful project execution.
Testing, Commissioning and Operational Readiness
Play a key role in supporting testing, commissioning, integrated systems testing (IST), and operational readiness activities. The role will coordinate pre-commissioning inspections, system start-up procedures, performance testing, functional testing, and commissioning activities for all mechanical systems. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with commissioning teams to ensure systems perform in accordance with design criteria, reliability standards, and client operational requirements. Particular emphasis will be placed on ensuring critical cooling systems achieve required redundancy, resilience, and performance objectives prior to facility energization and handover.
Here’s what you’ll need
