Key Responsibilities

Cluster Administration & Operations

  • Design, deploy, and administer multi-node Apache Kafka clusters across Development, UAT, and Production environments.
  • Manage Kafka ecosystem components including Brokers, Zoo Keeper/KRaft, Schema Registry, Kafka Connect, and ksqlDB.
  • Perform cluster sizing, capacity planning, partition rebalancing, and topic lifecycle management.
  • Execute rolling upgrades, patching activities, and version migrations with minimal or zero downtime.
  • Configure replication, ISR, retention, compaction, and quota policies in line with business SLAs.

Performance & Reliability

  • Monitor cluster performance, throughput, consumer lag, latency, and broker health using monitoring platforms.
  • Optimize JVM, operating system, storage, and network configurations for maximum performance.
  • Conduct load testing, bottleneck analysis, and capacity forecasting.
  • Implement and maintain disaster recovery and geo-replication solutions using multi-Region architectures, Mirror

    Maker2, or Cluster Linking.

Security & Governance

  • Configure and maintain authentication, authorization, and encryption mechanisms.
  • Integrate Kafka with enterprise identity and access management solutions.
  • Enforce governance standards, audit logging, and compliance requirements.

Integrations & Development Support

  • Build and maintain Kafka Connect integrations with enterprise platforms and data sources.
  • Administer Schema Registry and enforce schema governance standards.
  • Support development teams with onboarding, troubleshooting, and Kafka best practices.
  • Automate platform provisioning and operational tasks using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD tools.

Incident & Release Management

  • Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and resolution of critical production issues.
  • Develop and maintain operational runbooks, SOPs, and disaster recovery documentation.
  • Conduct periodic disaster recovery testing and validation exercises.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and administrators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience administering Apache Kafka or Confluent Platform in production environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Kafka architecture, including brokers, partitions, replication, consumer groups, offsets, and ISR.
  • Experience with Zoo Keeper and/or KRaft deployments.
  • Proficiency in Kafka Connect, Schema Registry, Mirror

    Maker2, and ksqlDB.

  • Proficiency in scripting using Bash, Python, or Go.
  • Solid understanding of JVM tuning, networking concepts, and storage systems.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog, or Confluent Control Center.
  • Hands‑on experience implementing Kafka security using SASL, SSL/TLS, Kerberos, ACLs, and RBAC.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Ansible), and container platforms such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Open Shift.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Confluent Certified Administrator (CCAAK) or Confluent Certified Developer (CCDAK) certification.
  • Experience running Kafka on Kubernetes using platforms such as Strimzi or Confluent for Kubernetes.
  • Experience with cloud‑managed Kafka services including Confluent Cloud, AWS MSK, Azure Event Hubs for Kafka, or Google Cloud.
  • Exposure to streaming and data integration technologies such as Flink, Spark Streaming, NiFi, and Debezium.
  • Experience with in banking, fintech, telecommunications, or large‑scale e‑commerce environments.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and service management practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Strong ownership and accountability mindset.
  • Ability to work effectively in high‑pressure production environments.
  • Willingness to participate in on‑call support rotations and after‑hours incident management.
  • Ability to mentor and guide junior team members.
