Senior Officer – Investments
JOB PURPOSE:
The Senior Officer – Investments is responsible for supporting the reporting and regulatory requirements of the Investment Department. The role ensures smooth and efficient investment operations by monitoring cash positions, trades, payments, and settlements. The job holder will report to Supervisor Investments
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Investment Accounting & Reporting
• Liaises with Asset Managers, Custodians, Fund Managers, and Fund Administrators to obtain required information and resolve discrepancies.
• Provides monthly investment report inputs to the Investment Manager.
• Prepares supporting data for TWRR (Time-Weighted Rate of Return) calculations.
• Prepares supporting schedules for Insurance Authority statutory reports and for external auditors.
• Assists in preparing Investment-Related Financial Statement Notes for quarterly and annual audits.
• Extracts the monthly investment trial balance and prepares source documents from the information obtained.
• Assists the Investment Manager in preparing monthly investment income estimates.
• Updates investment assets and income in IMSplus; reconciles with TB, Apex, Fund Manager, and Custodian Reports.
• Prepares monthly Investment Property Reports by liaising with Property Managers and performing comparative market rental analysis. Liase with legal for cases on Investment properties.
• Tracks equity and bond positions and activity via HSBC Portals; reconciles with Fund Administrator Reports.
Cash Management
- Prepares the Daily Cash Position report to ensure funds are available for all required payments.
- Coordinates with bank relationship managers for the timely renewal and placement of investment deposits.
- Maintains the Cash Transfer Tracker to monitor cash movements between departments and accounts.
- Analyses investment and property expenses on a quarterly basis and compares them against budgeted figures.
Trades & Payments
- Prepares settlement instructions for new investment opportunities including bond purchases, equity purchases, and equity sales.
- Enters trade instructions on HSBCnet based on received trade tickets and monitors trade settlement.
- Receives capital call notices from private equity managers, confirms fund availability, and instructs the payables team to remit funds on time.
- Maintains the PE/FI tracker to record distributions and capital calls daily; follows up on any delays with relevant counterparties.
- Tracks all fee invoices from service providers (Asset Managers, Fund Administrators, etc.) and ensures timely payment by the payables team.
- Prepares onboarding documents for new PE/FI funds and brokers; monitors all redemptions and maturities to deploy available proceeds efficiently.
- Maintains complete and accurate records for all investment portfolio transactions and documents.
KYC & Compliance
- Collects KYC and AML information from all investment counterparties and supports them in uploading information to the Company’s compliance portal.
- Maintains individual KYC files for each investment counterparty, capturing all specific information provided.
- Receives KYC requests from Asset Managers and coordinates to understand and fulfil their compliance needs.
- Liaises with the Legal & Compliance team to provide required information to all relevant parties, ensuring KYC exercises are completed successfully and on time.
Frameworks, Boundaries & Decision-Making Authority
Job activities are governed by standard practices and operating procedures and are subject to general supervision by the Supervisor – Investments. The role operates within defined investment policies and regulatory guidelines applicable to the UAE insurance sector
Key Working Relationships
Investments Team
Day-to-day coordination on investment activities, reporting, and operational tasks.
Finance & Accounting Team
Recording of investment activities and preparation of the investment trial balance.
Legal & Compliance Team
Conducting AML/KYC exercises and ensuring regulatory compliance.
External Relationships
Fund Administrators & Fund Managers
Obtaining monthly accounting and financial analysis reports; resolving discrepancies.
Asset Managers & Custodians
Procuring portfolio data, credit ratings, and managing counterparty communications.
Banks & Financial Institutions
Coordinating investment deposits, trade settlements, and cash management activities.
Insurance Authority
Fulfilling statutory reporting and regulatory requirements.
External & Internal Auditors
Providing required documentation and supporting audit processes.
Qualifications, Certifications & Experience
Qualification
Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) or equivalent professional accounting qualification
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (CFA L1 preferred)
Experience
2 to 4 years in investment operations, accounting, knowledge of Bloomberg, Excel proficiency
Language
Full Professional Proficiency in English; Arabic is an advantage
