Job Summary
The Senior Formwork & Scaffolding Design Engineer is responsible for developing, reviewing, and optimizing safe, efficient, and cost-effective formwork and scaffolding designs for construction projects. The role ensures all designs comply with project specifications, engineering standards, HSE requirements, and international best practices while supporting project execution teams with technical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and approve formwork and scaffolding design drawings, calculations, and method statements.
- Develop safe and efficient temporary works designs for complex structural and high-rise construction projects.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and project specifications.
- Optimize design solutions to improve material usage, cost efficiency, and constructability.
- Provide technical support to project sites during erection, modification, and dismantling stages.
- Resolve on-site technical issues related to formwork and scaffolding systems.
- Coordinate with construction teams to ensure design intent is properly implemented.
- Conduct site visits when required to verify design execution and compliance.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Construction Managers, and site engineers to align design solutions with project requirements.
- Coordinate with suppliers and system formwork providers for technical integration and product compatibility.
- Liaise with planning and procurement teams to ensure availability and suitability of systems.
- Ensure all designs comply with HSE regulations and safety standards.
- Incorporate safe working practices into all temporary works designs.
- Support risk assessments and ensure elimination or mitigation of design-related hazards.
- Develop innovative design solutions to improve efficiency and reduce construction time and cost.
- Stay updated with new formwork and scaffolding technologies and systems.
- Contribute to standardization of design procedures and best practices within the organization
Job Knowledge & Skills
- Strong expertise in formwork and scaffolding design principles and temporary works engineering.
- Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, Revit, TEKLA, or similar tools).
- Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and construction methods.
- Knowledge of international codes and safety standards for temporary works.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail skills.
- Good communication and coordination abilities.
Experience
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in construction engineering or temporary works design.
- At least 5 years in formwork and scaffolding design roles.
- Experience in high-rise, infrastructure, or large-scale projects is highly preferred.
- GCC experience (2+ years) is an advantage.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
