Job Summary
The Senior Fabrication Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising structural steel fabrication activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with client specifications and quality standards. The role works closely with Engineering, Planning, QA/QC, Procurement, Production, and Site teams to optimize workshop productivity and deliver high-quality fabricated steel components.
Key ResponsibilitiesFabrication Engineering
- Supervise all structural steel fabrication activities in the workshop.
- Review IFC drawings, shop drawings, GA drawings, and fabrication drawings.
- Ensure fabrication is carried out as per approved drawings and project specifications.
- Resolve technical fabrication issues and provide engineering support to production teams.
- Monitor fabrication progress and ensure timely completion of assigned work.
Production Coordination
- Coordinate daily fabrication activities with Production Engineers, Supervisors, and Foremen.
- Allocate fabrication work based on production priorities and available resources.
- Monitor workflow through cutting, drilling, fit-up, welding, assembly, blasting, painting, and dispatch.
- Ensure efficient utilization of manpower, machinery, and workshop facilities.
Planning & Progress Monitoring
- Coordinate with Planning Engineers to achieve project milestones.
- Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly production targets.
- Identify production delays and implement corrective actions.
- Prepare recovery plans to maintain fabrication schedules.
- Report planned versus actual fabrication progress.
Drawing & Material Control
- Review Bill of Materials (BOM), Material Take-Off (MTO), and cutting lists.
- Coordinate with Procurement and Stores to ensure material availability.
- Verify material traceability and compliance with project requirements.
- Ensure only the latest approved drawings are used for fabrication.
Welding & Quality Control
- Ensure welding activities comply with approved WPS, PQR, and applicable codes.
- Coordinate fit-up, dimensional inspections, and welding inspections.
- Support QA/QC during inspections and client visits.
- Investigate NCRs and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Minimize fabrication rework through effective process control.
Team Leadership
- Guide and mentor Production Engineers, Junior Engineers, Supervisors, and Foremen.
- Conduct technical briefings and toolbox talks.
- Monitor workforce productivity and performance.
- Assist in training fabrication personnel on best practices.
HSE Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company HSE policies and client safety requirements.
- Promote safe work practices throughout the fabrication workshop.
- Participate in safety audits and incident investigations.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare Daily Production Reports (DPR).
- Maintain fabrication progress records and productivity reports.
- Coordinate inspection requests and production documentation.
- Participate in production review meetings and project coordination meetings.

Educational Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience
- 8–12 years of experience in structural steel fabrication.
- Minimum 3 years in a Senior Fabrication Engineer or Lead Fabrication Engineer role.
- GCC/UAE experience preferred.
- Experience in Steel Structures, PEB, Oil & Gas, EPC, Heavy Engineering, or Industrial Fabrication projects.
