Objective:
To lead the strategic direction, regulation, and oversight of government tax revenues in Abu Dhabi, ensuring effective policy development, compliance with tax laws, and optimization of tax revenue collection and reporting. The role will drive innovation in tax policy, foster interdepartmental and federal collaboration, and support the diversification of government income sources.
Essential Duties:
- Lead the development and implementation of strategies, policies, and frameworks for the regulation and collection of government tax revenues in Abu Dhabi.
- Oversee the monitoring and submission of periodic tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with VAT and other tax regulations.
- Direct the review and reconciliation of tax accounts and returns submitted by government entities and departments.
- Guide the development of agreements and policies to avoid double taxation and enhance tax compliance.
- Supervise the preparation and analysis of tax revenue budgets, forecasts, and supporting data.
- Lead coordination with federal authorities on matters related to federal taxes (e.g., excise, VAT) and ensure the Emirate’s interests are represented.
- Oversee the development and delivery of training and guidance to government departments on tax policies and compliance.
- Ensure timely and accurate responses to inquiries from government departments regarding tax matters.
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation in tax revenue processes, leveraging technology and best practices.
- Provide expert advice to executive leadership on tax policy, compliance risks, and revenue optimization opportunities.
- Represent the Department of Finance in high-level discussions and negotiations related to government tax revenues.
- Provide the necessary support to the direct supervisor and perform any other related tasks that are assigned.
Experience and Qualifications
- Preferable to have 8 to 12 years of experience in a similar field/position.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or a related field, Masters or postgraduate degree in taxation is preferred.
- Specialized tax qualifications are preferred.
