Title: Science Technician

Primary objective:
The Technician works alongside the staff within the schools to assist with the preparation of practical equipment for teaching sessions. The Technician will maintain the preparation rooms, ensuring that equipment and consumables are stored/handled in line with Health and Safety guidelines and is responsible for maintaining stock levels.
Areas of responsibility:
Support to the teaching and learning activities within the schools.
Preparation of practical equipment, and solutions for the schools, and clearing away after the teacher has safely completed each lesson.
Training teachers in the use of the equipment that has previously been provided.
Demonstration of practical tasks within the classroom setting under the supervision of the teacher if needed.
Trialing new practical tasks before the classroom sessions.
Assist head of subject with display work and other classroom set-up such as stationery.
Assist head of subject with ordering of stock and equipment.
Purchase of sundry items from local supermarkets to be used in experiments.
Liaison with procurement department regarding planned expenditure.
Keep records of expenditure (ERFs).
Responsible for the cleaning and regular maintenance of equipment.
Keeping laboratories stocked and tidy at all times and ensuring inventory is updated regularly.
Maintain adequate labeling within laboratories and stock.
Handle the unpacking of overseas orders, tracking the deliveries and updating inventory spreadsheets to ensure minimum stock levels.
Ensure the safe storage of materials within the storage and preparation rooms.
Ensure disposal of waste is handled in correct manner in line with the Saudi Moe guidelines.
Undertake monthly ohs inspections of the laboratories and prep rooms, logging any maintenance issues with facilities management and keeping records of actions taken.
Work according to CLEAPSS and MSDS standards and undertaking relevant training.
Carry out risk assessments for technical activities.
Provide first aid in accordance with the training received.
Ensuring that adequate training is received for all the necessary technical activities including Health & Safety and correct use of equipment.
Collaborate with experienced technicians in regional schools and departments.
Keep a record of an updated student allergy register within the department.
Run and assist with CCAPs.
Take part in whole school initiatives.
Provide cover provision as needed.
Invigilate external and internal examinations.
Perform duties during morning and lunch break.
Undertake additional duties as and when required by the line manager.
Safeguarding:
The post holder will be required to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people and follow the school’s safeguarding policies and the staff code of conduct. They will directly support the designated safeguarding lead as a priority to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students at the school.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in relative major (essential).
Experience:
+2 years relevant experience, post qualification.

Proven academic technician background.
To be able to maintain safe and very orderly work environments.
Able to work under pressure and have strong time management skills, in a very busy work environment.

The prerequisite numeracy skills for a role involving stock taking and related actions.
