A Site Engineer handling piling and foundation works has several key responsibilities to ensure the stability and success of a project. These include:
1. Planning & Pre-Execution
Reviewing soil investigation reports and geotechnical recommendations.
Coordinating with structural engineers and geotechnical consultants.
Verifying piling layout and foundation drawings before execution.
Ensuring necessary permits and approvals are obtained before work begins.
Arranging materials, equipment, and manpower required for piling operations.
2. Execution & Supervision
Overseeing piling work, ensuring alignment with approved designs and safety standards.
Managing different types of piling methods (bored piles, driven piles, micropiles, etc.).
Monitoring pile depth, reinforcement cage installation, and concrete pouring.
Ensuring verticality and positioning of piles using surveying instruments.
Checking pile integrity through load testing, sonic logging, or other methods.
Supervising foundation work, including raft, isolated, and combined footing installations.
3. Quality & Safety Control
Conducting routine inspections and ensuring adherence to project specifications.
Monitoring concrete mix, slump tests, and cube tests for pile strength.
Coordinating with third-party testing agencies for pile load tests.
Implementing safety measures, ensuring workers use PPE, and preventing collapses.
Managing potential risks such as groundwater issues, soil settlement, or pile deviations.
4. Coordination & Reporting
Liaising with subcontractors, consultants, and suppliers for timely work progress.
Updating project engineers and management on work status and challenges.
Maintaining records of pile logs, test results, and site activities.
Preparing daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
Addressing design conflicts and proposing solutions for site challenges.
5. Cost & Resource Management
Monitoring material usage and avoiding wastage.
Tracking labor productivity and optimizing resource allocation.
Ensuring project stays within budget and preventing cost overruns.
