1. Road Marking Team Leader / Supervisor
Core Focus: Precision layout, quality control, and managing the team’s daily output on the asphalt.
Key Responsibilities
- Layout & Pre-Marking: Interpret civil drawings to manually set out control points, centerlines, and pavement symbols using chalk lines and stencils before application.
- Material Management: Calculate daily consumption of thermoplastic powder, primer, and glass beads to ensure the crew doesn’t run short mid-shift.
- Quality Assurance: Monitor line width, alignment, thickness, and immediate glass bead retroreflectivity embedding.
- Daily Reporting: Record daily production metrics (linear meters painted, square meters of stencils completed) and team timesheets.
2. Thermoplastic Machine Operator
Core Focus: Operating the application machinery with high precision to lay down straight, uniform lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation: Drive or guide walk-behind thermoplastic/cold-paint application machines along the pre-marked layout lines.
- Equipment Calibration: Adjust application shoes and spray nozzles to match required line widths (e.g., 10cm, 15cm, or 20cm).
- Bead Dispensing Control: Ensure automatic glass bead dispensers are functioning correctly to drop beads instantly onto hot material for immediate night-time visibility.
- Daily Maintenance: Clean out application shoes, dies, and nozzles at the end of every shift to prevent material from hardening and clogging the equipment.
3. Boiler Operator / Melter Attendant
Core Focus: Safely managing the high-temperature pre-heaters to supply continuous molten material to the applicator.
Key Responsibilities
- Material Melting: Load solid thermoplastic powder bags into the mobile boiler/pre-heater units and monitor agitation/mixing.
- Temperature Monitoring: Safely maintain oil-jacketed burners to heat material strictly within the target application range (typically $180^circtext{C}$ to $210^circtext{C}$).
- Safe Transfer: Safely transfer molten thermoplastic from the main boiler into the operator’s smaller application machine machine using heated discharge valving.
- Burner Safety: Conduct daily safety checks on LPG/diesel burners, regulators, and temperature gauges.
4. Skilled Crew Helpers (1–2 Workers)
Core Focus: Keeping the path clear ahead of the machine and protecting the fresh lines behind it.
Key Responsibilities
- Surface Preparation: Use mechanical air blowers, wire brushes, or primers to ensure the asphalt surface is completely clean, dust-free, and dry before marking.
- Stencil Placement: Set down and hold heavy steel/aluminum stencils for arrows, lettering, and speed markings during hand-spray or hand-screed application.
- Line Protection: Place and retrieve traffic cones or warning flags to prevent tracking from passing vehicles until the material is completely track-free (typically 2 to 5 minutes for thermoplastic).
- Material Handling: Unload and stack heavy material bags (25kg) and bead drums onto the support vehicles.
