Senior Project Manager (Sr. PM) with Oil and Gas experience typically requires a combination of education, industry certifications, and extensive work experience. Below are the key qualifications:
1. Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering .
Master’s Degree (Optional): An MBA or Master’s in Project Management/Engineering can be an advantage.
2. Work Experience:
15+ years of project management experience with oil & gas industry
Experience managing large-scale projects (EPC—Engineering, Procurement, and Construction, or drilling and production projects).
Proven track record in budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and stakeholder coordination.
3. Certifications (Highly Preferred):
PMP (Project Management Professional) – from PMI (Project Management Institute).
Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) – for process improvement in operations.
4. Industry-Specific Knowledge & Skills:
Strong understanding of HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) regulations.
Familiarity with standards and oil & gas project compliance.
Knowledge of contracts, EPC/EPCM methodologies, and supply chain logistics.
Experience with cost control, procurement strategies, and stakeholder management.
5. Technical & Software Skills:
Project management software: MS Project, Primavera P6, SAP, or Oracle ERP.
Engineering design tools (if technical background): AutoCAD, HYSYS, or other industry tools.
6. Leadership & Soft Skills:
Strategic Planning – ability to align projects with business goals.
Problem-Solving & Decision-Making – handling risks, delays, and operational challenges.
Team Leadership – managing cross-functional teams across locations.
Stakeholder Management – engaging with contractors, vendors, and government agencies.
