Job Title: Quality Control (QC) Officer – Paper Printing & Packaging (Paper Cups, Bowls & Bags)

Job Summary

The Quality Control (QC) Officer is responsible for ensuring that all paper printing and packaging products meet the company’s quality standards and customer specifications. The role involves inspecting raw materials, monitoring production processes, conducting quality checks on finished products, identifying defects, implementing corrective actions, and ensuring compliance with food packaging safety standards and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Incoming Material Inspection

  • Inspect all incoming raw materials, including paper board, PE-coated paper, inks, adhesives, handles, bottom reels, and packaging materials.
  • Verify materials against approved specifications and purchase orders.
  • Reject or quarantine non-conforming materials and prepare inspection reports.
  • Coordinate with the Procurement and Warehouse departments regarding material quality issues.

In-Process Quality Control

  • Monitor quality throughout the manufacturing process for:
  • Flexographic printing
  • Offset printing (if applicable)
  • Die-cutting
  • Paper cup forming
  • Paper bowl forming
  • Paper bag making
  • Handle fixing
  • Gluing and sealing
  • Packing
  • Conduct regular inspections during production to ensure compliance with approved samples and customer requirements.
  • Verify machine settings before production starts.

Finished Product Inspection

Inspect finished products for:

Printing Quality

  • Color consistency
  • Print registration
  • Ink adhesion
  • Smudging or ghosting
  • Missing print
  • Barcode readability
  • Logo accuracy
  • Customer artwork compliance

Paper Cups

  • Correct dimensions
  • Leak resistance
  • Bottom sealing quality
  • Rim curling quality
  • Side seam strength
  • Capacity accuracy
  • PE coating quality
  • Cleanliness and hygiene

Paper Bowls

  • Proper forming
  • Leak-proof performance
  • Rim finish
  • Shape consistency
  • Sidewall strength
  • Printing quality
  • Stackability

Paper Bags

  • Correct dimensions
  • Proper folding
  • Strong bottom pasting
  • Handle attachment strength
  • Glue application
  • Load-bearing performance
  • Print quality
  • Neat finishing

Testing & Inspection

  • Perform leak tests on paper cups and bowls.
  • Conduct handle pull tests for paper bags.
  • Check bonding and adhesive strength.
  • Verify product dimensions using measuring tools.
  • Perform visual inspections based on approved quality standards.
  • Conduct random sampling according to the company’s inspection procedures.
  • Ensure food-contact packaging complies with customer specifications.

Documentation

  • Prepare daily QC inspection reports.
  • Record production defects and rejection rates.
  • Maintain quality inspection records.
  • Prepare Non-Conformance Reports (NCR).
  • Maintain sample records and approved reference samples.
  • Issue corrective action requests when necessary.

Quality Improvement

  • Identify recurring production defects and recommend preventive actions.
  • Work closely with Production Supervisors to reduce waste and improve product quality.
  • Participate in root cause analysis for customer complaints.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase production efficiency and reduce rejection rates.

Customer Complaint Handling

  • Investigate quality-related customer complaints.
  • Conduct root cause analysis.
  • Recommend corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Monitor implementation of corrective actions.

Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with:
  • Company Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Food safety requirements for paper food packaging
  • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
  • Hygiene and sanitation procedures
  • Customer specifications and approved artwork
  • ISO 9001 requirements (preferred)
  • HACCP principles (preferred)

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Printing Technology, Packaging Technology, Quality Management, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in quality control within the paper printing and packaging industry.
  • Experience in manufacturing paper cups, paper bowls, or paper bags is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with food-grade paper packaging standards is an advantage.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of printing processes and packaging manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of quality inspection techniques and sampling methods.
  • Ability to read production drawings and customer specifications.
  • Proficiency in measuring instruments such as calipers, rulers, GSM testers, and micrometers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good communication and reporting skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
