You won’t be tweaking an existing aircraft. You’ll be building a next-generation aerospace platform from a blank sheet of paper, alongside a sovereign data network that will redefine how missions are controlled. Think clean sheets, cutting-edge tech, and a mission that actually matters.
The founding engineering team is being assembled right now. This is a greenfield opportunity to shape the DNA of both the aircraft and the sovereign C2 streams from Day 1.
Why This Role is a Gamechanger
In a certification programme, Configuration Management isn't admin—it's the backbone. It’s the difference between a chaotic mess and a flawless audit.
They need a CM leader who gets that. You won't just be filing paperwork; you will be the guardian of engineering integrity. You’ll build the systems, set the standards, and run the show. If an engineer needs a baseline or an auditor needs proof, they come to you.
You aren't maintaining a legacy system—you are architecting the future of how this programme stays organised and certified.
What You’ll Actually Be Doing (The Cool Stuff)
Stand up the EDMS from scratch: You’ll have the keys from Day 1. You’re creating the folder structure, the IDs, and the approval workflows. Think of it as building the operating system for the entire engineering team.
Be the Commander of Configuration: You’ll own the baselines at every major programme gate. You’ll be the one saying, "This is the version that flies."
Chair the Configuration Control Board (CCB): You are the traffic controller for change. You’ll coordinate impact assessments and make sure nothing moves without proper sign-off.
Conduct the Audits: Weekly spot-checks will be your secret weapon to ensure they stay 100% audit ready. You’ll be the one making sure they’re so squeaky clean that auditors get bored.
Your First 90 Days (The Mission)
This is the sprint to get the foundations right.
- Day 1: The EDMS is live. Folders, templates, and access controls are all ready to go.
- Week 2: Document control standards are published. Everyone knows the numbering scheme, revision rules, and metadata requirements.
- Month 1: The first CCB is held. The change process is up and running.
- Month 3: The Engineering Development Plan triage process is defined and they’re already planning the next wave of work.
Who They Are Looking For
This is a role for a hardened professional who loves the discipline of CM.
Must-Haves (The Non-Negotiables):
12+ Years in Aerospace CM: You’ve been on a certified programme before. You know the pressure of an audit, and you know how to prepare for it.
- EDMS/PLM Guru: You can deploy, administer, and configure these systems without needing IT to hold your hand.
- Audit Savvy: You understand the QMS and know exactly what the authorities are looking for.
- CCB Experience: You’ve run a CCB on a programme with 500+ controlled documents. You know how to keep the flow moving.
Bonus Points (The Nice-to-Haves):
- You’ve done this from scratch before (greenfield experience is gold).
- You understand PLM integration with CAD and MBSE toolchains.
- You’ve prepped for certification authority reviews.
