Role Description:
The Bakery Commis is an entry-level role within a professional bakery kitchen. This position involves assisting with the preparation, baking, and finishing of a variety of baked goods such as bread, pastries, cakes, and other bakery items. It’s an excellent opportunity to learn and refine bakery skills under the guidance of experienced bakery staff in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Bakery Preparation: Assist in preparing ingredients for bread, cakes, pastries, and other baked goods. Help with mixing, kneading, shaping dough, and preparing fillings, icings, and batters.
Baking: Assist in baking products, ensuring correct timing, temperature, and consistency. Monitor ovens and equipment to prevent overcooking or burning.
Stocking and Inventory: Maintain an organized, well-stocked bakery station, ensuring that ingredients and tools are properly stored. Notify senior staff when supplies are running low.
Cleaning and Maintenance: Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of the bakery station, tools, and surfaces. Assist with daily kitchen cleaning duties.
Food Safety and Hygiene: Follow food safety protocols and hygiene standards to ensure the proper handling and storage of ingredients.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Education: Formal culinary or baking training is a plus but not required.
Experience: Previous kitchen or bakery experience is a plus but not required.
Skills: A passion for baking, attention to detail, basic knowledge of kitchen hygiene, and good teamwork and communication skills.
