Job Overview :
The Principal Piping Designer performs design and engineering of process facilities within a specified timeframe while adhering to maintenance, safety, and quality standards. They consider constructability, economics, and operational aspects during Pre-FEED, FEED, or Detailed Design phases. Responsibilities include developing 3D models, ensuring clash-free models in coordination with other disciplines, and approving drawings such as plot plans according to project specifications, McDermott procedures, and process design practices.
The Principal Piping Designer completes assignments, facilitates work activities of others, sets priorities, organizes work and time to meet objectives, and, as Lead Designer, forecasts and plans resource requirements.
When acting as Lead Designer, additional responsibilities include leading the design team to complete tasks within schedule and budget, ensuring compliance with standards, McDermott, and project-specific procedures. Acts as the project-based discipline point of contact in communications and meetings with the Project Team, Client, vendors/suppliers, and subcontractors. Ensures that inter-discipline aspects of the design and deliverables are addressed. Supports the Lead Piping Engineer in measuring progress and productivity.
Coordinates all activities within the discipline and interfaces with other disciplines. Ensures effective communication among disciplines and manages changes effectively. Coordinates 3D model reviews and ensures review comments are addressed and closed.
