Role Description

We are seeking a highly organized and analytical Planning Engineer to support project planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reporting throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining project schedules, tracking progress against established milestones, identifying schedule risks, and providing timely updates to stakeholders. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that projects are executed efficiently, within agreed timelines, and in alignment with organizational objectives.

The Planning Engineer will prepare detailed work breakdown structures (WBS), establish project baselines, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to gather progress data and forecast project performance. The position involves analyzing project activities, evaluating resource utilization, monitoring productivity, and supporting decision-making through accurate planning reports and schedule analysis.

The role also includes reviewing project documentation, coordinating planning meetings, assisting in the preparation of recovery schedules where necessary, and ensuring that planning processes comply with internal standards and project requirements. The Planning Engineer will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, and construction personnel to maintain schedule integrity and facilitate effective communication across all project stakeholders.

Additional responsibilities include preparing progress dashboards, generating look-ahead schedules, monitoring critical paths, evaluating project changes, assessing schedule impacts, and supporting risk mitigation strategies. The Planning Engineer is expected to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by recommending enhancements to planning methodologies, reporting systems, and project controls processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong understanding of project planning principles, scheduling techniques, and project control methodologies.
  • Proficiency in scheduling software such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent planning tools.
  • Knowledge of Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Critical Path Method (CPM), resource planning, and schedule optimization techniques.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and project documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify scheduling risks and recommend practical solutions.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic project environment.
  • Strong numerical, reporting, and data analysis capabilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for coordinating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive planning reports, progress updates, schedule analyses, and performance dashboards.
  • Knowledge of project lifecycle management, cost awareness, and change management principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining data accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, accountability, and a proactive approach to planning and continuous process improvement.
