Planning Engineer

Job Purpose

The Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, coordinating, and monitoring production plans according to project schedules within the metals manufacturing industry such as Aluminum and Steel. The role ensures efficient resource utilization, adherence to production schedules, and smooth coordination between production, procurement, and site teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed production/project schedules using Primavera P6 / MS Project
  • Prepare baseline schedules, WBS, and planning deliverables
  • Monitor progress, update schedules, and prepare weekly/monthly progress reports
  • Track material procurement, delivery dates, and fabrication timelines
  • Coordinate closely with production, engineering, procurement, and site teams
  • Identify delays, risks, and bottlenecks; recommend corrective actions
  • Prepare short-term (lookahead) plans for operations and site teams
  • Support cost control through schedule–cost integration and resource planning
  • Conduct EVM (Earned Value Management) analysis and productivity tracking
  • Assist in tender planning, estimation of project durations, and resource forecasts
  • Provide planning input during project meetings and client presentations

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial / Mechanical Engineering
  • 5–10 years of UAE experience in planning within metals manufacturing industry, steel fabrication, or heavy industry
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, machining, welding, casting, or steel production
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6, MS Project, and planning tools
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in steel ad aluminum fabrication, metal manufacturing plants
  • Knowledge of EVM, KPIs, productivity tracking, and resource planning
  • Experience using ERP systems (SAP / Oracle / Microsoft Dynamics)
  • PMP or PSP certification is an advantage
