Planner
1. Purpose of the Role
The Planner is responsible for supporting effective planning, scheduling, coordination, and reporting of workshop and project-related activities. The role requires a strong mechanical engineering background to ensure accurate planning decisions, realistic schedules, and effective coordination with technical teams, while supporting project execution in line with contractual, operational, and safety requirements.
1. General Responsibilities
•Perform work-related tasks as assigned.
•Support compliance with contractual requirements and customer expectations.
•Maintain awareness of assigned job priorities, schedules, and critical path activities.
2. Planning & Scheduling
•Develop, maintain, and update job plans and schedules for workshop and project activities.
•Coordinate planning inputs related to manpower, materials, tools, and equipment availability.
•Track planned versus actual progress and highlight deviations to relevant stakeholders.
•Support preparation and updating of repair and maintenance schedules with understanding of mechanical workflows.
3. Technical Coordination
•Review engineering drawings, job scopes, and technical documentation to ensure accurate planning.
•Coordinate with workshop supervisors, engineers, stores, and support departments to validate planning assumptions.
•Ensure planned activities align with mechanical best practices and operational constraints.
4. Reporting & Data Management
•Maintain planning, scheduling, and tracking data within ERP and project tracking systems.
•Prepare and update planning reports, schedules, and trackers using Microsoft Excel.
•Support preparation of weekly operations reports and internal performance updates.
•Compile and analyze planning data to support management and customer reporting.
5. Stakeholder & Customer Support
•Support coordination between internal departments to ensure smooth execution of planned activities.
•Assist in preparation of inputs for customer progress meetings and job updates.
•Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders as required.
6. Efficiency & Effectiveness
•Support evaluation of planning processes, methods, and reporting tools to improve efficiency and accuracy.
•Identify and escalate planning risks, constraints, and improvement opportunities.
7. Policies, Procedures & Compliance
•Comply with all NOV company policies, HSEQ procedures, and operational standards.
•Follow standardized planning, reporting, and administrative procedures.
•Ensure planning documentation and system updates are completed in accordance with applicable procedures.
3. Job Relations
Reports To: Project Manager / Workshop Manager (as applicable)
Direct Reports: None (unless defined by operational requirements)
4. Qualifications & Experience
•Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
•Project Management qualification or certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent), or formal training in project management principles.
•2–5 years’ experience in planning, maintenance, workshop operations, or project support roles.
•Prior exposure to mechanical workshop or industrial project environments is strongly preferred.
5. Skills & Competencies
•Strong understanding of mechanical systems, maintenance, and workshop operations.
•Proven planning and scheduling capability in an industrial or workshop environment.
•Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, dashboards, data analysis).
•Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
•Experience with ERP / CMMS / project tracking systems is an advantage.
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•High attention to detail and organizational discipline.
•Effective communication and coordination skills.
•Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under deadlines.
6. Work Environment
•Office-based with regular interaction in workshop and operational areas.
•May require extended hours during critical operations or shutdown periods.
