Job Description / Responsibility
JOB PURPOSE
- To carry out the fitting work in order to ensure that the metal materials are fitted together accurately as per the specifications and measurements.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Day-to-Day Operations
- Fabricates metal structural parts, such as plates, bulkheads, and frames, vent heads, Handrails, bulwark, manholes and ceiling sheets and braces them in position within hull of ship for riveting or welding.
- Lays out position of parts on metal, working from blueprints or templates and using scribe and hand tools.
- Locates and marks reference lines, such as centre, buttock, and frame lines. Positions parts in hull of ship, assisted by RIGGER.
- Aligns parts in relation to each other, using jacks, turnbuckles, clips, wedges, and mauls.
- Marks location of holes to be drilled and installs temporary fasteners to hold part in place for welding or riveting.
- Installs packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories and members, such as doors, hatches, brackets, and clips
- Prepare molds and templates for fabrication of nonstandard parts.
- roll, bend, flange, cut, and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts, using shop machinery, such as plate rolls, presses, bending brakes, and joggle machines.
- Install, repair and fabricate thin sheet and small assemblies according to work orders, drawings and instruction by supervisor to meet Outfitting section’s assignment.
- Perform preventive maintenance and emergency repairs to equipment, tools and machinery in Outfitting department to prevent further damage.
- Ability to work on sheet rolling, bending, cutting, drilling and grinding machines
Health & Safety
- Maintain an awareness of all health and safety rules applying to the assigned tasks and tools to ensure that safe working practices are observed.
Use of Tools & Equipment
- Maintain competence in the use of all tools or equipment required for the assigned works.
JOB CONTEXT
- Adequate knowledge on this job is critical to ensure safety and proper execution of works.
- Ability to work in an oil and gas industry is essential for this position

Educational Requirements
- Diploma
- Technical School/Vocational in Ship Fitting / Ship Fabricating or any related field.
- Engineering, marine certificates preferred.
- Skills Required: Shipyard, Ship building in a shipyard
Experience Requirements
- 2 to 5 year(s)

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
Minimum Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience in Ship Fitting / Ship Fabricating.
Job-Specific Skills:
- Good communication and conversation skills.
- Excellent in reading and writing and spoken in English.
- Self-motivation & ability to work under pressure
- Ability to work in team and individually
- Excellent written and presentation skills. Including, expert skills with design.
- Ability to read basic engineering drawings
- Manual dexterity required for operating machinery
- Knowledge for using all tools and equipment
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds required.
