Position: MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
Summary
Leads and coordinates activities of the Laboratory Technicians and Laboratory Assistants. Performs a variety of laboratory testing and related tasks. Operates automated testing equipment. Performs routine procedural steps of laboratory tests.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Monitors and resolves problems related to specimen processes and activities of the Laboratory Technicians and Laboratory Assistants.
Receives, sorts, and accessions lab specimens in ICIS; processes them manually and automatically; contacts phlebotomists, nurses, and doctors as needed to resolve specimen-related issues.
Views activity orders in ICIS and prints collection and aliquot labels.
Performs procedural steps of less complex laboratory tests to obtain diagnostic results.
Operates automated testing and diagnostic equipment following established procedures.
Prepares specimens for observation and analysis by other laboratory staff.
Identifies and labels specimens to be retained and files them for future reference.
Assists in training new laboratory technicians and trainees.
Manages inventory and requests biweekly supplies for warehouse and pre-analytical machines; arranges staff schedules with senior staff and supervisors.
Works in accordance with standards set by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
Education
Bachelor’s or Associate Degree/Diploma in Medical or Laboratory Technology or related discipline is required.
Experience Required
Grade 07: One (1) year of related experience with a Bachelor’s or two (2) years with an Associate Degree/Diploma is required.
Grade 08: Four (4) years as a Medical Laboratory Technician at KFSH&RC or related experience at Grade 07 is required. An average annual performance appraisal score of at least 3.5 over the last four years and at least 50 hours of continuing medical education (CME) are also required.
Other Requirements (Certificates)
Current registration from the country of origin and the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) is required. Bilingual skills in English and Arabic are necessary for verbal and written communication. Completion of approved accreditation in the country of origin is required for non-Saudis.
