Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation:
Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for construction projects based on drawings, specifications, and site conditions.
Quantify materials, labor, and overhead costs required for each phase of the construction.
Calculate cost and resource requirements for both direct and indirect expenses.
Project Analysis:
Review blueprints, architectural drawings, and specifications to ensure all components of the project are accounted for.
Analyze the scope of work, design plans, and existing conditions to identify any potential challenges or risks.
Collaborate with engineers and architects to gather technical details for estimates.
Bid Preparation:
Prepare tender submissions and pricing documents for competitive bidding.
Work with the procurement team to source and evaluate suppliers and subcontractors for cost-effective solutions.
Analyze and compare bids, making recommendations to management for the selection of subcontractors and suppliers.
Budgeting and Cost Control:
Develop project budgets and track project costs to ensure they stay within the estimated range.
Monitor and analyze project performance against the budget and provide regular reports on cost deviations.
Advise project managers on cost-effective alternatives and suggest value engineering options when needed.
Risk Management:
Identify potential cost overruns or risks early in the project.
Provide solutions to mitigate any financial or scheduling risks.
Incorporate contingencies into the estimate to account for unforeseen circumstances.
Collaboration and Communication:
Coordinate with the project management team, architects, contractors, and suppliers to ensure seamless execution of project estimates.
Maintain good working relationships with clients and stakeholders, offering clear communication regarding cost changes and project requirements.
Participate in project meetings, providing technical support on cost and estimation issues.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of estimates, including detailed breakdowns of costs and assumptions.
Track changes in project scope and update estimates accordingly.
Prepare cost comparison reports and submit them to senior management for review.
Market Research:
Stay updated on industry trends, materials pricing, labor costs, and regulatory changes.
Analyze historical data on previous projects to refine future estimates and processes.
Investigate new methods or technologies that may reduce costs and improve project efficiency.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in construction estimation, project management, or a related field.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in estimation software (e.g., ProEst, Sage Estimating, or Buildertrend) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction processes, building codes, material specifications, and industry standards.
Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze technical drawings and specifications, and interpret data to produce accurate cost estimates.
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports, presenting estimates, and collaborating with teams.
Attention to Detail: High attention to detail for accurate cost estimation and risk management.
Working Conditions:
Full-time position, typically working in an office setting but may require site visits for project assessments.
Occasional overtime may be required to meet deadlines or prepare bids for urgent projects.
