Title: Manager Engineering -General Cargo & Bulk Handling Equipment

Lead and govern the engineering, maintenance, reliability, and technical performance of General Cargo and Bulk Handling Equipment across multiple international terminals and projects. The role is responsible for establishing engineering standards, supporting terminal engineering teams, driving equipment reliability, managing technical risks, and overseeing major equipment projects to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective terminal operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Engineering Governance & Technical Support
- Develop and implement corporate engineering standards, maintenance strategies, technical procedures, and best practices for General Cargo and Bulk Handling Equipment across all terminals.
- Establish equipment performance monitoring frameworks, engineering KPIs, and maintenance governance processes.
- Standardize maintenance methodologies, inspection regimes, technical specifications, and engineering practices across the portfolio.
- Conduct engineering audits, technical reviews, and performance assessments at terminals.
- Provide technical guidance and support to terminal engineering teams on complex equipment and operational issues.
Equipment Reliability & Maintenance Excellence
- Monitor equipment performance and maintenance effectiveness across terminals.
- Analyze equipment failures, downtime trends, recurring defects, and maintenance costs.
- Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for major equipment failures.
- Drive reliability improvement programs aimed at maximizing equipment availability and operational efficiency.
- Promote predictive and condition-based maintenance technologies and practices.
Bulk Handling Systems & Process Equipment
- Provide engineering oversight for bulk handling systems including:
- Ship Loaders, Ship Unloaders, Continuous Ship Unloaders, Grab Unloaders, Conveying Systems, Belt Conveyors, Transfer Towers, Feeders, Hoppers, Chutes, Stacker-Reclaimers, Stackers, Reclaimers, Silos, Bucket Elevators, Dust Collection Systems, Dust Suppression Systems, Sampling Systems etc..
- Ensure efficient and reliable operation of bulk cargo receiving, conveying, storage, reclaiming, and vessel loading/unloading processes.
- Support optimization of bulk handling operations for commodities such as grain, cement, clinker, coal, aggregates, fertilizer, sulfur, minerals, and other dry bulk products.
- Review operational bottlenecks and recommend improvements to bulk material flow efficiency and equipment utilization.
- Ensure compliance with environmental requirements related to dust, spillage, housekeeping, and emissions control.
General Cargo Equipment Oversight
- Provide technical oversight for:
- Mobile Harbour Cranes, Harbour Cranes, Forklifts, Reach Stackers, Material Handlers, Terminal Tractors, Trailers, Lifting Accessories, Grabs, Spreaders etc.
- Support terminals in enhancing lifting operations, equipment productivity, and operational safety.
- Ensure compliance with statutory inspection and certification requirements for lifting equipment and accessories.
Projects & Technical Leadership
- Provide engineering support during terminal expansions, equipment acquisitions, rehabilitation programs, and brownfield or greenfield developments.
- Review technical specifications, equipment selection, engineering designs, and procurement packages.
- Participate in technical due diligence activities for acquisitions, investments, and concession opportunities.
- Support preparation of business cases and technical evaluations for major equipment investments.
- Oversee commissioning, testing, performance verification, and handover of new equipment and bulk handling systems.
- Ensure lessons learned are captured and implemented across the terminal portfolio.
Contractor, OEM & Vendor Management
- Support strategic engagement with OEMs, system integrators, consultants, and specialist contractors.
- Participate in technical bid evaluations and supplier qualification processes.
- Review contractor performance and ensure adherence to technical and contractual requirements.
- Develop framework agreements and standard service requirements where appropriate.
HSE, Risk & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with corporate HSE policies, port regulations, statutory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Promote safe maintenance and operational practices across all terminals.
- Lead investigations into major equipment failures and technical incidents.
- Ensure compliance with inspection, certification, and regulatory requirements for bulk handling and lifting equipment.
- Support terminal business continuity planning related to critical equipment and bulk handling systems.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the corporate technical authority for GC & Bulk Engineering matters.
- Mentor and support Engineering Managers across international terminals.
- Collaborate with Operations, Projects, Procurement, HSE, Finance, and Executive Management teams.
- Represent the engineering function in technical reviews, executive meetings, investment committees, and project steering committees.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Educational and Technical Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in an Engineering field.
Language Skills:
- Ability to write in a clear concise manner and to communicate effectively in English. Knowledge of other languages will be an advantage.
Years of Experience:
- 10+ years, Minimum 5 years in a senior engineering leadership role.
