Job Purpose

The Interpretation Learning Unit Head develops and delivers the museum's educational and learning resources programme to a range of audience segments, particularly K-12 schools and universities, linking experiences to relevant curriculum or educator needs. The role holder will contribute to developing and managing the museum's strategy to engage school and university students and attract families and lifelong learners to participate in a diverse and engaging interpretive tools that will encourage visitors to engage with Zayed National Museum narrative.

Responsibilities

  • Working with the Interpretation Section Head, develop medium and long-term departmental goals in line with Learning & Public Engagement department scope and Zayed National Museum’s vision, mission and strategic direction.
  • Works with the Interpretation Section Head, in laison with Interpretation Unit (Content), in the preparation of short-medium and long term plans for the department.
  • Establishes Unit goals, methods, policies and procedures for implementing programmes in alignment with the Section’s strategic vision, mission and goals.
  • Actively develop, manage and deliver interpretive content and tools targeted primarly towards schools, universities, and families.
  • Provide direction and manage employees who will be participanting in developing content along with the Lead for the targeted audience.
  • Develop a wide learning content strategy, templates, processes to standarise the quality of delivery across all content contributors for the same target audience within this scope.
  • Prepares progress and status reports by analysing and summarising the information and trends of the interpretation (Learning) projects.
  • Contributes to departmental plans which covers project funding, feasibility, staffing, and related constraints of the department ensuring the availability of required resources to carry out all the tasks related to the needs (in coordination with Interpretation Section Head and HR Department).
  • Manage the administration of invoices related to Lead’s initiatives, projects and / or programme within Interpretation Section.
  • Creates a welcoming environment for visitors, conducive to experiential informal learning, through quality educational experiences, special projects, activities and materials onsite and online.
  • Develop and produce resources and kits for school and university educators.
  • Manages development of activity content and materials to promote education and interpretation activities.
  • Analyses data and collects information on visitors' needs and expectations in order to develop new programmes and interpretation activities and experiences, and reports this information to the Interpretation Section Head and Learning & Public Engagement Director.
  • Ensures operational excellence in achieving KPI’s, working towards establishing a sustainable financial model by achieving any set financial targets and driving internal process improvement and efficiency and, ensuring the offering of attractive products or tools that lead this enablement.
  • As a representative of the Zayed National Museum the role holder will consider reflecting the values of the museum in all projects produced – working to understand and manage all stakeholders.
  • As a leader, the role holder will create learning opportunities by collaboration, transfer of knowledge, or developing employees in their respective area, that drive employee engagement and growth across the Museum.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years post graduate experience in developing content for school audiences in a museum or a cultural institution.
  • Experience of budget and project management
  • Experience in similar position in educational learning
  • Knowledge and experience of current practice in audience development and museum education
  • Fluency in Arabic and English.
  • Bachelor’s degree in museum education, Art Education, Art History, History, and Museology
  • Prefered master’s in museum education, Art Education, Art History, History, and Museology
