We are seeking an experienced Ice Plant Mechanic to join our Plant Maintenance team in Qatar. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, operation, preventive maintenance, and repair of industrial ice plant and chiller refrigeration systems, ensuring continuous, safe, and efficient production with minimal downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on industrial ice plants, chillers, and refrigeration systems
- Inspect, service, and repair mechanical components including gearboxes, shafts, cutters, racks, screws, and conveyor mechanisms
- Service and overhaul reciprocating and screw compressors, including oil replacement, refrigerant charging and recovery, filter replacement, and internal mechanical inspections
- Clean and maintain water-cooled condensers and cooling towers, including replacement of drip eliminators
- Inspect refrigeration circuits and repair leaks in joints, valves, piping, fittings, and seals
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electronic faults to minimize equipment downtime
- Interpret PLC alarms, operating parameters, and fault codes to diagnose system issues
- Use electrical testing instruments to inspect motors, starters, contactors, solenoids, and control circuits
- Replace defective components including expansion valves, pressure regulators, solenoid valves, motors, bearings, seals, and pumps
- Safely perform shutdown, startup, commissioning, and restart of ice plant and chiller systems
- Maintain maintenance records, equipment history, and service reports
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures, lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements, and environmental regulations
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Planner or Team Leader to schedule activities with minimal disruption
- Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns to restore production
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma, ITI, or Technical Certificate in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, HVAC, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial refrigeration or ice plant maintenance
- Experience with KTI ice plants highly preferred
- Working knowledge of PLC-controlled refrigeration equipment
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
- Sound knowledge of refrigerant handling, recovery, charging, and leak detection
- Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration systems
- Good communication skills in English
