JOB DESCRIPTION
The General Mechanic will be responsible for performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repair works on
heavy machinery and construction equipment including Volvo, Komatsu, Kobelco, CAT, Bobcat, and other
similar equipment. The role involves troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems,
carrying out preventive maintenance, conducting component overhauls, and ensuring equipment
reliability and safety in accordance with manufacturer standards and company procedures.

Role Scope
The General Mechanic will operate within the heavy machinery workshop and may be assigned to site
work as required. The role includes handling routine maintenance, emergency breakdown repairs, and
major component replacements for a wide range of construction and earthmoving equipment. The
position requires adherence to safety standards, technical guidelines, and workshop procedures while
ensuring minimal downtime of equipment. The mechanic will work under the supervision of the Workshop
Supervisor/Foreman and collaborate with other technicians to meet operational targets and service
quality benchmarks.
Key Responsibilities
Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled servicing of heavy equipment.
Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical faults.
Repair or replace defective components such as engines, transmissions, hydraulic pumps, cylinders,
and braking systems.
Perform dismantling, assembly, alignment, and testing of mechanical components.
Ensure proper use of tools, lifting equipment, and workshop machinery.
Maintain maintenance records, job cards, and spare parts usage.
Follow safety procedures, permits, and workshop safety standards at all times.
Support emergency repairs to minimize equipment downtime.
Assist in inspection of equipment prior to mobilization to site.
Required Skills & Qualifications
ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering(Not mandatory) or equivalent trade qualification.
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
Hands-on experience with brands such as Volvo, Komatsu, CAT, Bobcat, or equivalent.
Proven experience in hydraulic systems, including pumps, motors, valves, and cylinders.
Good understanding of diesel engines and mechanical power transmission systems.
Ability to diagnose faults and carry out preventive and breakdown maintenance.
Familiarity with heavy machinery workshop tools, lifting equipment, and safety procedures.
Basic knowledge of workplace safety, HSE practices, and permit-to-work systems.
Physically fit and capable of working in a workshop and site environment.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, with good communication skills.
