Fireman – Job Summary
Location: Mirfa International Power & Water Company (MIPCO), Mirfa, Abu Dhabi, UAE
Reports To: Lead Fireman
Purpose of the Role
The Fireman is responsible for protecting life, property, and the environment by responding to fire, rescue, and emergency incidents. The role involves firefighting, rescue operations, first aid, emergency preparedness, fire prevention activities, and maintaining firefighting equipment and systems.
Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
- Support permit-to-work requirements, including hot work permits.
- Promote safe working practices and identify workplace hazards.
- Report incidents, near misses, and environmental concerns.
- Support compliance with company standards and legal requirements.
Fire & Rescue Operations
- Respond effectively to fires, accidents, spills, floods, and other emergencies.
- Operate firefighting equipment, breathing apparatus (BA), and rescue tools.
- Administer first aid and lifesaving support when required.
- Conduct routine inspections, testing, and minor maintenance of firefighting equipment and fixed fire protection systems.
- Maintain readiness of fire stations, vehicles, and emergency equipment.
- Participate in emergency drills, training exercises, and physical fitness programs.
- Support emergency response team training and preparedness activities.
Financial Responsibilities
- Assist in developing, monitoring, and reporting Fire & Rescue-related O&M budget requirements.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Fast and effective emergency response times.
- Regular and well-executed emergency drills.
- Reliable and well-maintained equipment.
- Increased near-miss reporting and safety awareness.
- Zero reportable accidents or environmental permit breaches.
- Support for maintaining ISO/OHSAS and other safety management standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in fire and rescue operations within an industrial or similar environment.
- Professional firefighting qualification from a government-approved institution or equivalent military fire and rescue experience.
Required Knowledge & Skills
- Firefighting and rescue techniques.
- Fire behavior and hazard recognition.
- Breathing apparatus (BA) operation.
- First aid and resuscitation.
- Fire protection systems and equipment testing.
- Knowledge of local fire and rescue regulations.
- Computer literacy and safety management systems.
