Experience Required

Education
Diploma or bachelor’s degree in electrical, Electronic, or Instrumentation Engineering or equivalent.
Mandatory Certification
CompEx Ex01–04 (gas/vapor) or IECEx CoPC Units 003/007 minimum — required.
Certificate must be current, unrevoked, and independently verifiable (compexcertification.com / iecex.com)
Additional Requirements (Optional)
CompEx Ex11 (mechanical) or additional IECEx CoPC units, OPITO BOSIET with EBS and OPITO Basic H2S training. K3/HSE certification an advantage
Language

About the Role
The Field IECEx Inspector performs hands-on inspection of hazardous area electrical and instrumentation installations under the technical direction of the Lead IECEx Inspector. This role executes Visual (V) and Close (C) grade inspections in accordance with IEC 60079-17:2023, supports Detailed (D) grade activities, and maintains accurate inspection records for every classified hazardous area assigned.
The initial deployment covers the PP12 Expansion CCGT IPP Project (1,800 MW, Durma, KSA) — spanning 14 classified hazardous areas from Zone 0 to Zone 2, covering natural gas, hydrogen, and diesel oil hazard categories. The Field Inspector works within their certified competency scope at all times and operates under the direct supervision of the Lead and Senior Inspectors for any activity outside that scope.
Key Responsibilities
All responsibilities are performed in compliance with IEC 60079-17:2023, IEC 60079-14:2013, API RP 505:2018, and the project Hazardous Area Classification drawing, and strictly within the Field Inspector's certified competency scope.
1. Document Familiarization & Pre-Inspection Preparation
• Study the project Hazardous Area Classification drawing for all assigned areas — understand zone boundaries, gas groups, and temperature classes before commencing any inspection
• Notify the Lead Inspector immediately of any discrepancy observed between the HAC drawing and site conditions
• Attend the daily technical briefing conducted by the Lead Inspector — confirm understanding of the planned areas, applicable ITP activities, and safety controls for the day.
• Review relevant equipment certificates and cable schedules for assigned areas before entering the field
2. ITP & SOP Compliance
• Perform all inspection activities strictly in accordance with the approved Inspection & Test Plan (ITP) apply the correct inspection grade (Visual, Close, or Detailed) as designated for each activity.
• Never perform an inspection activity outside the assigned ITP scope or personal certified competency without prior written instruction from the Lead Inspector
• Follow all approved SOPs for inspection activities including cable gland inspection, conduit sealing checks, earthing continuity verification, and enclosure integrity checks
• Report any SOP ambiguity or site condition not covered by the SOP to the Lead Inspector before proceeding.
3. Inspection Execution (Visual, Close & Supporting Detailed Activities)
• Perform Visual (V) grade inspections — equipment nameplate verification, zone signage checks, enclosure integrity checks, cable entry and gland visual checks, and labelling/marking verification.
• Photograph all findings using IS-rated cameras and record observations on the standard inspection record form.
• Perform Close (C) grade inspections using calibrated tools — cable gland tightness checks, gland-to-cable compatibility verification, bolt and fastener checks, and conduit sealing fitting checks.
• Use only Ex-rated or non-sparking tools when working within classified zone boundaries.
• Assist the Lead and Senior Inspectors during Detailed (D) grade activities — equipment handling, instrument setup, scribing measurements, and recording test results as directed.
• Do not personally conduct or sign off any Detailed grade activity unless specifically certified and authorized to do so
4. Non-Conformity Report (NCR) Support
• Identify and report any non-conformance observed during inspection immediately to the Lead or Senior Inspector — do not classify or close NCRs independently.
• Photograph all observed defects clearly with area code, equipment tag, and a wide and close-up shot before reporting.
• Support re-inspection of closed NCR items as directed — confirm physical rectification matches the reported corrective action before the Lead Inspector signs close-out.
5. Documentation & Records
• Complete all inspection record forms accurately and legibly (or via digital tablet where provided) — include equipment tag, area code, ITP reference, inspection grade, result, and photo reference for every item inspected.
• Submit completed inspection records to the Document Controller within the same working day
• Maintain a personal daily activity log of areas inspected, equipment count, and hours worked — submit to the Lead Inspector at the end of each shift.
6. Tools, Instruments & Calibration
• Use only assigned calibrated instruments and Ex-rated/IS tools for all inspection activities — verify the calibration sticker and expiry date before each use.
• Report any damaged, malfunctioning, or out-of-calibration instrument to the Lead Inspector immediately and remove it from service.
• Maintain personal accountability for all tools and instruments issued — return all items to the designated storage at the end of each shift.
• Never improvise or substitute an unapproved tool for any inspection activity inside a classified zone.
7. HSE & Site Safety
• Never enter any classified zone without a valid Permit to Work, an active calibrated personal gas detector, and an active buddy.
• Confirm the evacuation route and muster point before entering any new work area, particularly Zone 0/1 areas.
• Participate in the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) briefing before each task and acknowledge understanding of the identified hazards and controls.
• Immediately stop work and report to the Lead Inspector or HSE Officer if an unsafe condition is observed.
• Wear all mandatory PPE at all times in classified areas — coveralls, safety boots, helmet, gloves, and gas detector as applicable.
• Comply with all site-specific HSE rules including heat stress management protocols during summer working hours.
8. Schedule & Mobilization
• Complete all personal certificate submission, medical clearance, and site induction requirements before the confirmed joining date.
• Confirm tool and PPE issue with the Lead Inspector before first site entry.
• Report for duty on time for each shift per the site working hour schedule, including adjusted summer hours where applicable.
• Complete the assigned daily inspection scope within the planned schedule — notify the Lead Inspector promptly of any delay or access obstruction.
9. Team Coordination
• Work under the direct technical supervision of the Lead and Senior Inspectors at all times — follow all reasonable instructions related to inspection scope, sequencing, and safety.
• Communicate clearly and promptly with the inspection team regarding progress, findings, and any obstacles encountered.
• Maintain professional conduct with site personnel, client representatives, and other contractors at all times.
• Escalate any conflict, safety concern, or scope ambiguity to the Lead Inspector rather than resolving independently.
