Job Summary

The Fabrication Manager is responsible for leading and managing all structural steel fabrication operations, ensuring projects are fabricated safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with client specifications and quality standards. The role oversees production planning, workshop operations, manpower, machinery, quality, material control, and coordination with engineering, procurement, logistics, and project teams to achieve maximum productivity and customer satisfaction.

Key ResponsibilitiesWorkshop Operations

  • Lead and manage all fabrication workshop activities.
  • Ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted workshop operations.
  • Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly production targets.
  • Optimize workshop capacity and machine utilization.
  • Ensure timely completion of fabrication packages.

Fabrication Process Management

Manage and supervise the complete fabrication process, including:

  • Material receiving and identification
  • CNC Plasma/Laser Cutting
  • Beam Line Processing
  • Plate Cutting
  • Drilling & Punching
  • Fit-Up & Assembly
  • Welding (SMAW, GMAW/MIG, FCAW, SAW)
  • Grinding & Finishing
  • Dimensional Inspection
  • Shot Blasting
  • Painting & Coating
  • Packing and Dispatch

Planning & Coordination

  • Coordinate with Planning Engineers to execute fabrication schedules.
  • Review IFC drawings, shop drawings, GA drawings, BOM, and MTO.
  • Ensure timely availability of materials, consumables, and resources.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, QA/QC, Stores, Logistics, and Project teams.
  • Develop recovery plans to overcome production delays.

Production Management

  • Allocate manpower based on production priorities.
  • Monitor fabrication productivity and efficiency.
  • Eliminate production bottlenecks.
  • Improve workflow and reduce downtime.
  • Ensure projects are completed within planned schedules.

Quality Management

  • Ensure fabrication complies with approved drawings, specifications, and international standards.
  • Coordinate inspections with QA/QC and client representatives.
  • Review NCRs and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Minimize rework through effective production control.

Material & Resource Management

  • Monitor steel consumption and reduce material wastage.
  • Optimize utilization of machinery and equipment.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance of workshop machinery.
  • Ensure availability of welding consumables and fabrication tools.

Team Leadership

  • Lead Production Engineers, Senior Fabrication Engineers, Supervisors, Foremen, QA/QC personnel, and workshop staff.
  • Conduct daily production review meetings.
  • Coach and mentor engineering and production teams.
  • Evaluate employee performance and training requirements.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with HSE policies and client safety requirements.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards.
  • Conduct safety inspections and toolbox talks.
  • Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions.

Reporting

  • Prepare Daily Production Reports (DPR).
  • Submit weekly and monthly production reports.
  • Monitor KPIs and workshop performance.
  • Report fabrication progress to the Operations Manager or General Manager.
  • Present production status during management review meetings.

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

Experience

  • 10–15 years of experience in Structural Steel Fabrication.
  • Minimum 5 years in a Fabrication Manager, Workshop Manager, or Production Manager role.
  • GCC/UAE experience is highly preferred.
  • Strong experience in Steel Structures, PEB, EPC, Oil & Gas, Industrial Plants, and Heavy Engineering projects.
