We are hiring an Engineering Director to lead the Commercial Systems unit, comprising three engineering teams that design, develop and operate services for Canonical business and the Livepatch security solution. The ideal candidate has a proven record of delivering full‑stack software services, upholding high engineering quality standards, and continuously developing skills of their direct reports.
Location
This role will be based remotely in the EMEA region.
The role entails
- Leading multiple engineering teams, ranging from graduates to seniors
- Developing engineering managers to uphold Canonical culture within their teams
- Advocating and implementing exemplary engineering practices and processes
- Setting and executing solid performance management with clear goals and objectives for direct reports and teams
- Monitoring and acting on indicators of team health
- Owning the product development roadmaps for the teams
- Serving as an active member of the Commercial Systems leadership team, collaborating with other leaders
- Expanding teams by hiring top talent
- Collaborating with stakeholders and product users
What we are looking for in you
- Exceptional academic track record from high school and university
- Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about an alternative chosen path
- Proven ability to drive multiple or large teams of software engineers to deliver outstanding results
- Experience in at least one of the following areas:
Golang, Python, Java, or distributed integrations - Track record of surpassing expectations to achieve outstanding results
- Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills
- Result‑oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments
- Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long
Nice‑to‑have skills
- Performance engineering and Dev Ops/SRE experience
- Experience with accounting, sales, sales operations, or other business roles
