Engineer – Telecommunications (Metering) Jobs in Doha at Inspire Management Training Center

The Engineer – Telecommunications (Metering) is responsible for ensuring reliable communication between smart meters and utility head-end systems through telecom networks. The role focuses on monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing AMI/AMR communication infrastructure, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and ensuring accurate and continuous meter data transmission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain telecommunications networks supporting smart metering systems (AMI/AMR).
  • Ensure stable communication between smart meters and head-end systems (HES).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve communication failures, signal issues, and data transmission errors.
  • Support configuration and commissioning of communication modules (RF, GSM, LTE, PLC, etc.).
  • Analyze network performance and identify areas for improvement in coverage and reliability.
  • Coordinate with telecom providers and internal IT teams for network-related issues.
  • Support installation and integration of communication infrastructure for new metering sites.
  • Perform diagnostics on communication devices, gateways, and data concentrator units.
  • Ensure timely data flow from meters for billing, analytics, and reporting purposes.
  • Maintain documentation of communication networks, configurations, and system changes.
  • Support firmware updates, system upgrades, and integration of new communication technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with utility standards, cybersecurity policies, and data protection requirements.
  • Assist in fault analysis and root cause investigations for communication outages.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or related field.
  • Certification in AMI Communication Systems
  • Minimum 13 years of experience in telecom systems, or smart metering infrastructure.
  • Understanding of communication protocols such as RF mesh, GSM, LTE, PLC, or NB-IoT.
  • Knowledge of network troubleshooting, signal analysis, and data transmission systems.
  • Experience with AMI head-end systems and data concentrators is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional technical teams and external telecom providers.
  • Good understanding of cybersecurity principles in utility communication systems.
  • Proficiency in technical reporting and documentation.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
