Job Description – Fiber Cable Installer
Position: Fiber Cable Installer / Fiber Optic Technician
Location: UAE
Reports To: Project Engineer / Site Supervisor
Job Purpose
Responsible for the installation, termination, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of fiber optic cables and associated telecom/ELV infrastructure at project sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Install fiber optic cables through conduits, cable trays, ducts, trenches, risers, and other pathways.
- Perform fiber cable pulling, routing, dressing, labeling, and securing as per approved drawings and project specifications.
- Carry out fiber optic termination, splicing, and connectorization for single-mode and multimode fibers.
- Install and terminate fiber optic patch panels, ODFs, LIUs, splice trays, and related accessories.
- Perform fusion splicing using appropriate splicing equipment.
- Conduct fiber testing using OTDR, optical power meter, light source, and VFL.
- Identify and troubleshoot fiber faults, high-loss points, breaks, and poor connections.
- Prepare and maintain fiber test reports and installation records.
- Interpret cable schedules, shop drawings, layout drawings, and fiber termination schedules.
- Ensure proper cable bend radius, pulling tension, cable separation, and installation practices.
- Carry out cable identification and labeling according to project standards.
- Assist in cable containment installation, including trays, conduits, trunking, and ducts where required.
- Maintain tools, testing equipment, and installation materials in good condition.
- Follow all project HSE requirements, method statements, and risk assessments.
- Coordinate with site engineers, supervisors, civil teams, and other MEP/ELV contractors.
- Perform rectification and maintenance works when required.
- Ensure work is completed according to project quality standards and within agreed schedules.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- ITI / Diploma / Technical certification in Telecommunications, Electronics, Electrical, ELV, or a related field is preferred.
- 1–2 years of experience in fiber optic installation and structured cabling.
- Hands-on experience with fiber optic cable pulling and termination.
- Practical experience in fusion splicing and OTDR testing.
- Knowledge of single-mode and multimode fiber optic systems.
- Ability to read basic engineering drawings and cable schedules.
- Familiarity with fiber optic testing and troubleshooting equipment.
- Knowledge of ELV, telecom, structured cabling, and data network infrastructure is an advantage.
- UAE/GCC project experience is preferred.
- Valid UAE driving license is an advantage.
