Job Role: Shift Incharge
Experience: 4+years

Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor the Electric Arc Furnace for fusion of calcined alumina into WFA
- Control furnace parameters such as voltage, current, arc length, and temperature (~2000°C+)
- Charge raw materials (high-purity alumina, additives if applicable) into the furnace
- Monitor melting process to ensure proper crystallization and purity levels
- Adjust electrode positions and power input for stable arc and efficient melting
- Supervise furnace tapping, cooling, and block formation of fused alumina
- Coordinate with crushing and grading teams after solidification
- Maintain production logs, batch records, and process data
- Identify and troubleshoot operational issues (arc instability, overheating, contamination)
- Ensure optimal energy consumption and minimize material loss
Quality Control Responsibilities
- Ensure final product meets WFA standards (high Al₂O₃ purity, low impurities like Fe₂O₃, SiO₂)
- Monitor color, density, and crystal structure during production
- Prevent contamination during charging and melting
- Work closely with QA/QC team for sampling and testing
Maintenance & Equipment Care
- Inspect furnace lining (refractory condition) and electrodes regularly
- Report wear, damage, or abnormal furnace behavior
- Assist maintenance team during shutdowns and repairs
- Ensure proper functioning of cooling systems and electrical components
Safety Responsibilities
- Follow strict safety procedures for high-temperature furnace operations
- Handle risks related to molten material, arc flash, and dust exposure
- Use full PPE (heat-resistant gear, face shield, respirator if required)
- Respond to emergency situations (power failure, furnace breach, overheating)
Qualifications
- Diploma / ITI / Technical certification in Electrical / Mechanical / Metallurgical field
- Experience in EAF or high-temperature furnace operations (abrasives/minerals industry preferred)
- Familiarity with alumina-based production processes is an advantage
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of electric arc furnace operation and controls
- Knowledge of high-temperature material behavior and fusion processes
- Ability to interpret process parameters and make real-time adjustments
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Team coordination and communication
Working Conditions
- Extreme heat environment (2000°C+ processes)
- Dusty conditions (alumina handling and crushing stages)
- Rotational shifts
- Physically demanding role
