Purpose Of Job:
The Derrickman/Derrick Operator is responsible to the Driller for the racking/running of the drill string at the racking board when drilling & tripping and may also assist the Assistant Driller as required.
Handles tubular goods while working in the Derrick. Operates and maintains drilling fluids pumping system.
Key Tasks
- Performs any work in the derrick / mast such as measuring drill string, greasing equipment, etc.
- Ensures the good maintenance of the derrick /mast and auxiliaries such as monkey board, casing board, hoses, and cables under the supervision of the Assistant Driller.
- Must inform the Driller of any defects found in the derrick / mast or any hazardous situations.
- Performs any drill crew duties as directed and within his capabilities.
- Able to work in the rig floor/monkey board and stabbing board.
- Checking and maintenance Mud Pump and know how to work on Mud tank.
- Preparing the monkey board when rig move took place.
- Familiar with rigging up and rigging down stabbing board.
- Familiar with slinging and rigging.
- Familiar with rig equipment’s.
- Working knowledge of common HSE practices.
- Able to work in the rig floor/monkey board and stabbing board.
- Responsible to make sure that all safety belts and safety systems are maintained properly.
- Operation of the Man-lift (Mobile Elevated Work Platform)” “MEWP” is subject to training and certification.
Minimum Qualification: Secondary school or equivalent experience and Technical Knowledge in this position
Minimum Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience. Technical Skills: Chemical Handling Management. Banksman and Slinger Awareness Basic background in rig components and drilling operations.
Safety
- Safety is a major responsibility. Each individual member of the company must accept the responsibility to ensure safe working in his respective area.
- He must apply Company safety regulations.
- He must report to the Driller for all the potential hazards especially when he is working in the mast.
- Participate in safety meetings, drills, safety training and safety observation programme.
- Familiarise themselves with the Group Safety Policy and to take all reasonable care to ensure the health and safety of themselves and persons likely to be affected by their acts or omissions, as required under the Health & Safety at work.
- Make use of the relevant Safety Observation System e.g. STOP, PTW and take immediate action to contain, eliminate or guard against actual and potential hazards to health, plant, equipment and the environment, which come to their attention during the course of their work.
- In the event of an incident/accident, ensure all steps are taken to make the area secure for investigation and inform the Senior KCA DEUTAG representative immediately.
- Bring to the immediate notice of their supervisor, actual and potential hazards to safety, health, plant and equipment, which come to their attention in the course of their work.
- Client, Permit-to-Work system and other site-specific Safety and Procedures Manuals.
- Carry out planned Safety inspections when required.
- Ensure that all work is carried out to the requirements of the Permit-to-work system and in compliance with Safety Procedures in force, initiates PTW as necessary within their discipline and ensures all safety precautions are carried out.
